It looks like Superman to me, just with some strange, inferior changes. Now that Terry Doyle said about the Hembeck knees I can't unsee it.

I'm curious about the story in this issue: Superman stands on a mound... What happens next?

Mr. Byrne had previously made note of a time when Marvel had almost come to own the DC heroes…

••

I think you are referencing my referencing one of Shooter's pet fantasies. I don't recall a time when the "almost" got any closer than that!

I'm a little surprised he didn't sign it with a "Jr" added.

Does anyone know if Janson has inked Sr. before?

And to add to Jason's list, there's also the Straczynski "Earth One" graphic novel version and they've even started the "Adventures of Superman" anthology which, as far as I can tell exists only to bring back the red shorts! (I wonder if these are inventory stories or some pros are just putting their foot down and saying they won't work on the Jim Lee armored version.)

I'd forgotten about EARTH ONE. Yet another doppelganger. Pure insanity.

I've heard that ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN (which is no longer being published, right?) consists of new stories, not inventory stories. And they're all done-in-one. In other words, like the REAL Superman stories from ye olden days.

And I agree about the collar. It's the worst thing about the new costume. It makes Superman's neck look skinny!

Michael. Jr. is the interior artist. That is why he has credit on the book.
That has been the norm for years. They credit the writer, penciller, inler
and colorist on the cover of the book.
Sr. did the cover for this issue. Hence the title of the thread, Jazzy.

I stopped reading comicbooks over thirty years ago -- so maybe I missed this "norm"!

Haven't read Superman in years. I noticed, at some point, Supes had a mullet hair-do! Thought that one looked particularly awful . . .
