I try to imagine what would happen if I was assigned to do a Black Panther book, and said "Okay, but I'm White, so I'm going to make him White, too!"I wonder how much "As long as it's a good story!" we'd hear!

Would it change the dynamic in Spider-Man if J Jonah Jameson was swapped with Robbie? The "representative balance" would still be the same...

A black man with a Hitler mustache at that.•• I'm sure Jonah thinks of it as Charlie Chaplin's.

There is also a sense of "unrealness" to "race swapping." Regardless of what you might think of the series, Tom Welling was playing Clark Kent, the guy in the comics. Andrew Garfield is playing Spider-Man. But the black Johnny Storm isn't seriously meant to be the guy from the comic books. I doubt Marvel would suddenly change the appearance of the character to match the film (though, if successful enough, who knows with Marvel these days).
I liked that the MOS-rebooted Superman cast had diversity for the time -- Maggie Sawyer was gay. Lana Lang wasn't suddenly gay because it "made a good story," but a new character was introduced who is still present. Don't make Lois Lane or Jimmy Olsen black but introduce a female love interest at the Planet who is black as competition for Clark. And so on.

David Miller: A black man with a Hitler mustache at that.•• JB: I'm sure Jonah thinks of it as Charlie Chaplin's. ** I went for a skinny Oliver Hardy look once, but everyone called me "fat Hitler."

There were complaints about Angelina Jolie as Fox in Wanted Halle Berry was the model for the comic character ala Ultimate Fury/Samuel Jackson. I guess they have not heard the new about Johnny Storm yet.
By the way, if you haven't seen Wanted, I recommend you keep it that way.

As to Jones playing the part, it makes me glad he did. I hope I can find it. He'd probably be the best of anyone I've seen to date. Sounds like excellent casting for the lead._________
Sorry Stephen, I thought you were talking about all media/outlets. I saw James Earl Jones (with Christopher Plummer as Iago!) at the Shakespeare Theater in the early 80's. They ran the show on Broadway soon after.

BTW, I mentioned that I had read the Othello comment somewhere else. After reviewing this thread, it turns out it was JB from page 2. I'm glad my retention is still decent, even if I can't remember where I got it from.
Anyway, credit where credit is due.

Seems the subject of "race swapping" in adaptations is becoming a hot topic on other web sites. Some have even quoted JB and of course there's been the usual mixed reaction.
