the far too short-lived (10 issues, I think) Justice Society of America series from the early 90s, drawn by Mike Parobeck. The whole series was great fun.

Seconded.  Great yet all but forgotten run.

A tip of the proverbial hat to those who stuck to just three choices.

I like trades well enough, but I still love finding those old back issues in the $1 or $2 boxes. I've especially been buying back issues of series that I don't think can or will be collected any time soon (I think there are some legal obstacles to reprinting a lot of these). By the simple fact that they won't reprinted (and therefore easily accessible to a new generation) makes them "underrated." The ones I've almost got a complete set of are--

MASTER OF KUNG FU by Moench and Gulacy, then Zeck--What's the hitch here? Marvel didn't KNOW they needed permission to use Fu Manchu? Or did the permission just run out? (And he's in practically every storyline!)

HOWARD THE DUCK by Gerber and Colan--Every time I mention this to anyone under 40, they judge it by the movie and can't believe that the comic was any good. I think there's one out of print omnibus for this, but people are selling it for $300! Now that Disney owns Marvel, I would think that the whole problem of Howard wearing pants or not shouldn't matter anymore.

KILLRAVEN/WAR OF THE WORLDS by McGregor and Russell (and a few others)--I think they had to stop calling it "War of the Worlds" at some point, but I think the title is public domain now. I would love to see a fancy collection of this one!

I haven't been (re)buying these yet, but I think I will start looking for them--

ROM by Mantlo & Sal Buscema, then Ditko--I have great memories of this one and my friend has been collecting back issues lately. I am tempted. A well-done 75-issue limited series!

MICRONAUTS by Mantlo & Golden--I don't remember the later issues well, but those first issues with Golden art blew me away! An oversized collection would be amazing!

LOGAN'S RUN by Kraft & Perez--The five-issue adaptation these two did was hands-down the best adaptation ever. I happened to (of course) see the movie, watch every episode of the TV show, and read the novel, and--by far!--the comic book version was the very best presentation of the story! Klaus Janson's inks really gave Perez's pencils that extra moodiness that helped make this a really special comic book experience.

Marvel licensed the rights to Fu Manchu and the supporting characters from Sax Rohmer's books in the 70s.  The license has expired.  Arguably, all the Rohmer characters (with the exception of Fah Lo Suee, Fu Manchu's daughter) are in the public domain now.  But the stories Marvel produced featuring those characters are still owned (or co-owned) by the Rohmer Estate, and thus would not be reprintable without a new licensing agreement.

I've bought a huge run of Master of Kung Fu because I
can't see it being reprinted...especially now the Essential
line is gone.

Is it? I know that was reported but I thought Marvel never confirmed cancellation of the Essentials line

Matt Wagner, Steven Seagle, and Guy Davis did some fantastic work
on SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATER.

Wish there would have been more of that team.

This is a hard question really. But my FAVORITE runs were the ones I remember when I was younger.

Avengers #150-#200
X-Men, the Cockrum-Byrne era.
Fantastic Four, Byrne era
Captain Marvel, pretty much the entire run. I miss that guy.
Thor  Walt Simonson era

POWER OF SHAZAM by Ordway and Krause.

SPECTRE by Ostrander and Mandrake.

VALOR by Waid, Busiek and Doran.
