SPIDER-WOMAN by Wolfman, then Gruenwald & Infantino

Hmm. I have both Essentials. Should probably get around to reading them one of these days!

(1) Bill Willingham's run from ROBIN (Issues 121 to 147). I ended up reading these issues well after their original release date.
(2) Astro City (Kurk Busiek, Brent Anderson, Alex Ross) - I'm a few issues behind in reading these issues - however, I've been with this series since its inception.
(3) Adventures of Superman #599 to #623 - Almost al the issue were written by Joe Casey, with art principally by Derec Aucoin (Donovan), with two issues by Charlie Adlard (of Walking Dead fame). IMV, probably the most unconventional Superman stories of the last 15 years.
(4) Black Panther (1999) - Christopher Priest with a variety of artists: Joe Jusko, Sal Velluto and Bob Almond, among others - I'm still working through the series issues I have.

I agree, the writing is sparkling -- a non-stop succession of one witty gag after the next. I was less crazy about the art; something about the way Baker intermittently punched out the blacks of his own art with his own colouring just made it less easy for my eye to take it in.

Right now I'm going through my Alan Davis Excalibur series.  I think its a pretty fun series.  Really different from all the other million X-titles.  I don't pay much attention to what everyone thinks is "good" or not so I'm nut sure if its underrated or not.

I second DeFalco and Frenz on Amazing Spider-Man and Thor. I think the first 8 issues of G.I.Joe by Larry Hama/Herb Trimpe/Don Perlin are very underrated. Especially for a "toy tie-in" comic.

Nocentti and JRjr in Daredevil can be considered underrated? I loved that run!

Nothing against Walt Simonson's run on THOR, but I think that "The Celestial Saga" from THOR #283 - 301 deserves more accolades than it gets.

Scripting by Roy Thomas (later Mark Gruenwald & Ralph Macchio) along with art by John Buscema and then Keith Pollard. It was my introduction to Thor as a character (after initially discovering him via The Avengers).

Also, I enjoyed the unique storyline that featured the Celestials, Deviants, Eternals, Brunhilda the Valkyrie, Hercules, The Forgotten One, and managed to merge Thor's origin (at the time) with the plot of Wagner's Ring Cycle.

Heady stuff for a teenager in the 1980s :-)

I will also toss in for consideration the run on IRON MAN by John Romita Jr. and David Michelinie (issues #115 - 155).

Again, this was my introduction to Iron Man after I discovered him via reading the Avengers (during JB's run as artist during and just after The Yesterday Quest).

JRjr and Mr. Michelinie crafted the version of Iron Man that I will always enjoy and cherish, no matter what Marvel and Hollywood may opt to do with the character in the future.

Oh, and let's not forget that they introduced me to Bethany Cabe as well :-)

Maybe the run in it's entirety, but it's hard to consider "Demon in a Bottle" underrated considering how many times Marvel has gone back to that particular well.

Agreed but I don't think it gets much play at all.  People who read it at the time were hit or miss on it and it gets very little attention via reprint.
