Great timing for a discussion on this!
I just got a second copy last week.

First copy was bought in 1986*, and it was a revelation!
Its stunning contents cemented by JB obsession, that
lasts to this day!
Speaking of which, It`s high time I requested some more
JB commissions...

*Also the year I bought Focus on George Perez :)
Good times.

Speaking of "Critical Error", besides myself did anyone else here buy it when it was released as a special one shot issue?

I recall seeing and browsing through it at the LCS back when it came out, but when I saw what JB did to clean it up (hid the naughty bits from the original behind vines and air bubbles), I felt like it wasn't really worth buying. I still wanted to have the original unedited version from TAOJB that I saw. I'm not sure if he wants to restate the reason why he redid it, but I recall him not being quite comfortable the original in retrospect.

I have that CRITICAL ERROR, offered some years ago from a guy only bying first issues. It was great having it then. Didn´t know it was from "Art of John Byrne" when he offered it too me.
Haven´t read it in years, so it was a good read again.
Always is...

I too bought a copy of this book, which I treasure.

However, I regret to say I loved the frontispiece (is that the right way to use that word?) of Superman SO MUCH I tore the cover off and framed it.

*sigh* Anyway, no chance I was ever going to get rid of the book so .. still, a shame.

Brian: In Nathan Greno's commission that shows Rog 2000 seated at the drawing table surrounded by a vast number of characters JB has worked on over the years, the girl from Critical Error appears in the corner holding the signature.

---

I asked for the character to be nude in that commission -- as she appeared in the "Art Of" book. I thought John Byrne's solution to covering her up was really smart...

(bottom right corner)...

I have it, but don't think I got it when it was first released.

By the way, that Marvel cover is the one on which Iron Fist's collar infamously casts a shadow on the Human Torch's flame trail!

Dog save me from techno-geeks who think they are artists!!!!

I believe that comment was meant for the "JB Art Book Question?" thread, where this book is being discussed...
