I know that Ditko never drew Mary Jane's face, but something about the
drawing above makes me think Ditko - mainly the angular eyebrows.

"A Spider-Man sketch by John Byrne and Mark Bagley on a piece of textured, plastic tablecover."

That beats the Chris Giarusso Spider-Man sketch I have on a piece of corrogated cardboard.

Wow... I would never have identified that as a JB piece.

Not a JB image, but worth knowing about just because of JB's signature...

Q: What could get JB, Alan Moore, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and Jim Shooter all onto the same page?

A: The power of the Schwartz. Julie Schwartz.

JB signed on the "S" in the title.

Other sigs include Jerry Siegel, Ray Bradbury, Joe Kubert and just about anyone you can think of. It's amazing to see in full-size (over at Heritage Auctions - not for sale) link

I think the Bagley inks might be throwing you off...

Can't get the image to upload. My computers on the mend so I'm using
my iPhone. I'll try again another time.

••

I could make a strong case that it isn't. Mark didn't ink, he drew. He turned my Spider-Man into his. Not even the signature is mine.

This is more like one of those tracings that turn up from time to time. Heck, I have one on my wall -- Jack Kirby inked by me, on overlay. I was much, MUCH more faithful to the line work than Mark was with the Spider-Man piece, but it's still not REALLY Kirby, is it?

This, of course, brings up the eternal question of why someone who has a pencil sketch by any artist would WANT to get it inked by someone else. Are the pencils not "special"? Inked drawings are all over the place. Pencils are rare. Again, I have a Kirby pencil piece, Cap, Bucky and the Red Skull, about 10x15 inches. Not once have I looked at it and thought I should find some inker to "finish" it.

Whenever I see Kirby's original pencilled pages, I tend to
think it's a shame they were inked by anybody before
being published.

Love pencilled work.

Have you ever wanted to get a sheet of overlay an ink it yourself?

JB, that confirms my thoughts when I saw the piece. You might as well have scribbled a stick figure.
