Oh please. If anyone wants to really see examples of oversensitivity run amok, spend 30 minutes reading Social Justice Warrior blogs on Tumblr.

I knew we'd pretty much run off the rails when I got in all kinds of trouble for using "the N-Word" on this Forum in the context of saying it was a bad word.

A sad commentary on how far we've slipped since I had the Hate-Monger use it in FANTASTIC FOUR and received letters from Black readers praising me for my "courage". (Their word.)

Somewhere, George Orwell weeps.

I don't mean to liken Frank Cho to a prostitute. Far from it ... it seems Frank Cho doesn't draw characters he doesn't like, unless its to lampoon it. But Andrew Farago's description of what Frank Cho should behave is a portrait of a very cynical person.

Hey, who exactly is the fan of who, here?

I'm a museum curator with about a hundred exhibitions under my belt at this point.  Some subjects have been absolute favorites of mine since childhood, some are new discoveries, and every once in a while, I'll work on something that really doesn't do it for me personally.  If I'm doing my job, patrons shouldn't be able to tell one from the other.  That's not cynicism, that's professionalism.

What strikes me as much as anything is how woefully inferior the art, the lettering and the amended script is to Frank Miller's original.

 "the N-Word"
~~~~~~~~
I find it a shame that people have to say" N-Word" When they are referring to the actual word. People get so caught up in the actual shock of hearing the word they don't bother to listen to the context in which it's being used.
It's my opinion that if people can stop fearing words and take the time to listen to how and why they're being used. Those words will lose the power they have to hurt.
Sorry for the drift.
I predict for this usage an arc akin to cripple/handicapped/disabled, as the euphemism itself becomes unacceptable.
#BanBossy, #CancelColbert, and a full 4 page thread of complaints about a cartoonist who doesn't like Superman....What the hell happened to our collective sense of humor?
Larry David did an episode of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM all about this.
”I’d bet that if Frank Cho did manage to get a cover assignment or otherwise landed a Superman assignment, he’d treat it as a professional job and no one reading it would even realize that he didn’t like the character.”
And this is different from a prostitute .. how?
By this standard, you can liken pretty much every worker to a prostitute. And in some way, I guess you have a point. Yet almost all these workers would rather stay with their current jobs than become actual prostitutes, so the difference must be real.
Johan, most people may not like their jobs. But few people actually hate their jobs like Frank Cho loathes Superman. Why? Because they eventually quit those jobs. Because they are not whores. I'm mean, "sex workers".
----------
It is a big jump to go from "I hate Superman" to he hates
his job. his job and Superman are two completely separate
things. He doesn't even draw Superman for a living.
My point exactly. The only guy who is saying Frank Cho would draw Superman for money is Andrew Farago.
My point exactly.
What is your point? Only fans can draw characters? A professional should be able to leave his personal tastes out of his work and do what's asked of him. Why is that such a controversial idea to you?
