Was ACTION COMICS monthly all the way from '38-'88? Because #600 hit the
Direct Market in '88, so it couldn't have missed more than 12 months in 50
years (unless there was some less-then-monthly period as well, obviously).

---------------------------------------

There were 4 80 Page Giant Action Comics during the 60s (meaning Action was biweekly during those months), which put it 4 issues ahead of a regular monthly numbering.

There was a 'skip month' sometime in the Spring of 72, IIRC, to put the entire DC line on track, which put Action back to 3 months ahead. What they did, I think, was bump the cover date ahead by a month, which resulted in missing a May or June issue, yet the title shipped as normal.

The next skip occured when JBs Man of Steel mini was on sale over three months, which put it back on track... until the weekly series occured.

Happy 75th to a character that has endured MANY incarnations of the years and STILL stands strong.

How was this date calculated?

DC is using the date entered into the copyright records by the Library of Congress.

Batman and Denny O'Neil have the same birthday (5/39) if we go by cover date. I find that fitting.
