Excellent!!  Very appropriate for the final version of this to go to the wonderful Jeff Fettes.  Very cool, Jeff!!  You got an amazing piece!!!

Nice one! How many wild ink pens had to die for this commission?

Well, Shooter's point may have been to sell books, but if it were going to be used, I liked it as Spidey's stealthier look.

Tho it left us with the question, as such changes often do, of how the character had gotten along just fine for so long without the "improvements."

Actually saw someone complaining about that, once. "He makes it look too easy!"

I'm not even sure how that WORKS!!

--JB

Well, that's just people -looking- for something to complain about! They've come to the art with their agenda already in mind.

I suffer from the other extreme! The one where I expect that everything you do is going to explosively awesome...no pressure;)

Actually, joking aside, I recall you're saying in the past that, (forgetting issues at Marvel.), you'd find it difficult to follow your own legacy on the FF. I wonder if there is a sliver of this pressure with each new project? In-so-far as you feel the need for the new project to be better than your previous one!

I try to make each project in some fashion DIFFERENT from what I've done before. I have no real control over whether they will be BETTER -- but I can HOPE!

Hrm. I've thought of asking for one of these with a different character...might that be game?

The black costume is just "wrong" for the friendly neigjborhood Spider-
Man. I like when film and TV adaptations present the costume as a
"dark" period for the character, which makes sense thematically for me.

I was a fan of the brief time when he'd wear the original costume during the
day, and the black one at night - that way people on both sides of the fence
were happy, and it just seemed like something that Peter Parker would do.

The black costume was interesting, but mainly for great images such as this commission. Improving on the classic Spider-Man is impossible.
