I'm with Stephen Churay, if one style is "in vogue" for a while, I start to miss the other.

"Why do you THINK I wear a target on my chest? Can't armor my head."

I find that logic ... dubious.  If there were validity to it, cops and soldiers would have bulls eyes on their chests.

As I have said before, if I found myself in a situation where I was shooting at Batman, I would aim for the one part of him that is clearly NOT covered, the lower half of his face.

Frank's "logic" for the bat emblem assumes every hood in Gotham, from the lowest to the highest, is a crack shot. A marksman who can hit a hand-sized target on a moving figure, at a distance. (It would have to be at a distance. If Batman is close to you, you're already unconscious.)

++++

I noticed that when Steve Ditko drew Batman, he practically refused to draw
his face showing. It was always in shadow. I wonder if it was his way of saying
that open mask didn't make sense!

Oval as a general rule.  More striking and reminds me of the bat-signal.

Also, the bat-symbol inside the oval is the coolest and most recognizable.

The black bat on gray looks to plain for my tastes in general.

The one caveat is that it really depends on how the material of that bat costume is presented and the color of the tights/armour.

If you look to the movies or (I think) the Nu52 Batman
outfit, I definitely get what Gregory was saying re:
armour. Love seeing this much love for the yellow oval
though, it seemed for a time it had really fallen out of
favour!

Like about 90% of my comic-related opinions, I prefer whatever I first was exposed to, which was the oval.  Course, anything Batman-related I associate with Adams, Giordano or Aparo I'm probably in favor of.

I prefer the yellow oval. For the main reason that it's the way it was when I was introduced to Batman. When I first discovered Batman he had the oval in the comics, on the Adam West TV show, and on the Super Friends cartoon. He even had the oval in the first 3 seasons of Batman The Animated Series. I personally find the black on gray (and even worse the black on black movie look) to be boring and uninspired.

I also agree with some other posts that pointed out that the yellow oval clearly identified Batman as the current version of the character. It used to be that the all black bat was used to differentiate the Batman of the past from the present.
