I narrow it all down to Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema. They were the writer/artist team which introduced me to the Hulk in my boyhood days, and very few have matched what they did.
John Byrne comes a close second, but would've surpassed them had he not had his run cut short so soon after he started it. I got the feeling that he wanted to go places with the character which weren't explored before then.
Herb Trimpe comes third, though having worked with different writers at times. He had the longest run as the artist after Buscema, and must've made an impression on a generation of fans which preceded mine.

Carmen:
Herb Trimpe did make a huge impression on a lot of fans. He's the first name that pops into my head when somebody says "Hulk artist." The second would be Sal Buscema.
I am particularly fond of Trimpe inked by John Severin.

My favorite HULK artists, in order:
1. Sal Buscema

3. John Byrne
4. Jack Kirby
5. Dale Keown
Sal Buscema drawing Hulk might be the single artist/character pairing that is the most definitive to my mind.

My favorite Hulk writer and artist were also teamed together; Peter David and Dale Keown.
I love JB's all too short solo run as well.
Sal Buscema's Hulk was the first comic I ever read.
