JB on Superman started my move from Marvel to DC. Looking back , DC had some great talent on board , from Perez , Grell , and Miller to name a few.

I actually liked what Steven Grant and Mike Baron did with The Punisher. It was when the character became over-exposed the real problems set in.

I have to agree with Jesse Perkins in that 1986 was a very important year for comics.  Dark Knight, Watchmen, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Man of Steel, Jim Shooter out of Marvel after the debut of his "New Universe" titles.   Others I remember....Camelot 3000, Jack Kirby on Super Powers, Kirby's Hunger Dogs and of course the comics were reasonably priced back then. You didn't have the $3.99 or what ever the going price is for current comics.

1986 was the year I started getting translated Japanese comics that were starting to be published in the United States. Up until then, I was almost exclusively a Marvel X-books fan, with Walt Simonson's Thor and John Byrne's Fantastic Four and Alpha Flight being the exceptions. It was also when I began to sour on my Marvel fandom due to the increasing frequency of crossovers and "event" issues that appeared to do nothing to make the stories in the main comics progress to my satisfaction. Within a few years, I went through my first separation with Marvel, having found satisfaction with the Japanese imports and indie titles.

Did anyone mention the start of Dark Horse comics in 1986 as well?  Living here in Oregon it was a huge deal.  I was in Pegasus Comics in Beaverton (now Things From Another World) when Pat handed me a flyer and said "Hey we're starting our own comic company" and there was a picture of Boris The Bear on it.

'86 was such a big year for me in comics. Not only was I getting into
TDRK and MOS but I was discovering the independent publishers at
the same time. I was always on the lookout for books from First,
Comico, Eclipse, Kitchen Sink and Warp Graphics. My exploration of
the medium just grew and grew.

1986, the year of my prized Daredevil BORN AGAIN saga (#227-233) by Frank Miller. That period for the title remains among my pinnacle favorite comics ever.

I have loaned out my TPB of Born Again so often it's nearly in tatters...

That absolutely sucks; the reason I rarely lent out my comics anyone.
