As for a popular artist whose Superman doesn't work for me, I go with Alex Ross.

Comicbookresources.com did a poll on the definitive Superman artist earlier this year and here are the results -

1 - Curt Swan - 36.4% (1985 votes)

2 - John Byrne - 13.4% (728 votes)

3 - Frank Quitely - 8.5% (461 votes)

4 - Jim Lee - 8.4% (460 votes)

5 - Dan Jurgens - 7.4% (403 votes)

6 - Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez - 6.3% (341 votes)

7 - George Perez - 4.8% (263 votes)

8 - Joe Shuster - 3.7% (202 votes)

9 - Jerry Ordway - 2.5% (137 votes)

10 - Neal Adams - 2.4% (131 votes)

11 - Ed McGuinness - 2.2% (118 votes)

12 - Wayne Boring - 1.2% (68 votes)

13 - Tim Sale - 1.0% (56 votes)

Unfortunately we have no Al Plastino or Kurt Schaffenberger among the nominees. I would agree with about two-thirds of their list.
