I don't have a problem with new characters using the names of older, established characters as long as it doesn't rewrite the original version's history to do so. Marvel is a bit behind, as DC already introduced a new Muslim superhero character, but... eh.
The guy writing the article seems to really be pushing for this character to be in an "Avengers" movie. Seemingly based on her being Muslim and a teen-aged girl, and nothing more. I have no real opinion on the character, but there are plenty of heroes Marvel has that have been actual Avengers in the comics that I'd like to see in an "Avengers" film before her.
And as for the comic book art, the art looks decent enough, but the main picture used to illustrate the article is pretty bad. I mean, is that an attempt by the artist to do forced perspective, or does the new Ms. Marvel have the ability to enlarge her hands?
The new Ms. Marvel
Anyway, what's your thoughts

Why not create a whole new character? I think you could accomplish a lot more that way. They have a history of doing this, though.

Setting aside all the various one-off Muslim characters, Dust from the X-Men had a decent amount of page time in various X-titles long before Simon Baz.

Carol Danvers is now Captain Marvel.
edit to add: I think Baz is still around as part of the Green Lantern Corps, but I haven't been following the series other than an occasional skim when I get comics in at the shop.

So the writer of this article is pushing for this new Ms. Marvel to be in an Avengers movie even though she hasn't debuted yet? Sorry, but there are many, many other actual Avengers I'd rather see in a movie.
And what's with that giant left hand?? Looks like a kid drew it.

A friend has since informed me that this Ms. Marvel is a shape-shifter. Still, I think the picture was an odd one to demonstrate that.
