When I saw JB's Hulk/Superman commission, I made a remark about how it would be the new "best art JB has ever done!!" title-holder, and that it would probably be about 3 months before something else came along. 3 months. Clearly I was wrong!

Really like this.

Though, I was more of a fan of Defenders after Damien Hellstrom was there.  I just thought he was a cool character.  So this piece would be my ultimate favorite Defenders piece if Son of Satan was in there  :-)

JB --- you missed the brick pattern between the Silver Surfer's legs

This is for me... and I love it. I have to say I didn't even think of the  sharkskin as a possibility until I sent Jim a link to a previous commission with it in! It's the pedantic teacher in me...

Greaaaat piece of work, Hulk, Silver surfer and Namor are incredible !

On Defenders, never read any but the story with Magneto reverted to a child. Always thougt, at first sight that the initial Line-up was too powerfull to find any balanced battle with any enemy, did the writers managed to do it ?

This is great. I love it, and it only reminds me of how much I would have
loved to have seen JB tackle the Defenders on a monthly basis. Thank you
very much!

Great commission of one of my favourite teams!

I wonder why the Defenders never really "took off". Such a powerful team with so many diversified A-list heroes. They could handle mystical threats, cosmic threats and even some earthly enemies. Probably more material to work on than the Avengers, if you ask me...

Great piece.

As great as the FF, X-Men and Avengers are, the Defenders have always been the most interesting to me, at least in conception. They seem like the quintessentially dysfunctional Marvel team.

I wasn't there, except as a reader, but my understanding is the idea behind the Defenders was a group composed of character we would not expect to find in a group. Strange, Namor and the Hulk pretty much topped that list.

Over the years, as everybody wandered in and out of pretty much all of Marvel's group books, that original moment of conception kinda got diluted, but it was a fun ride while it lasted.

Thinking about it a bit longer, in my opinion, they also lacked some "leader material". Someone like Captain America or Cyclops who could function as the glue that would keep the whole team together.
Strange strikes me as an intelligent fellow, but I don't see him as a leader in battle, the Hulk was not that bright and, most of the time, had to be convinced to help the others, Surfer has the power but he's a loner and Namor can be a great king and warrior and lead atlantean armies but I can't see him being efficient leading such a powerful team... he doesn't play well with others, specially being the less powerful of the lot.

Oh well, it was a fun ride indeed!

I loved the early days when Namor would get mad at the idea that the Defenders were even a group!
