...we're still talking about that one Jewish guy they nailed to a cross!

••

A classic example of Christians not knowing their own story. In the original Greek, Jesus is executed by being nailed/tied to a stauros, or vertical stake, without a crossbeam. The cross did not work its way into Christian mythology until about five centuries later.

…the last time I checked this forum doesn't have the rule that you have to think like everyone else.

••

Careful who you say that to! You run very much against the popular internet mythology!

Not sure why the artist thinks I look like an angry Walt Simonson! (Wish I COULD grow a mustache like that one, tho!)

A major part of JB's "intolerance," I think, is that he allows on this, his forum, opinions he doesn't hold but also utterly ignores them.

Hey! Lookit me! You old stuff was..! Er, you've changed...! Um, this forum used to be...! Um, ah... LOOK AT ME!

As a Greek Jew who has read the original NT back to front countless times, I can testify (praise be!) that revealing what its language REALLY says never fails to blow Christian minds.

I've bounced around a few web forums in the last ten years and by far, this forum and Michael Moorcock's forum are the two best-run I've ever seen.  The discourse is by and large constructive and when it runs off the rails, Management addresses it quickly and fairly.

I have only been here a few years, but I do find that when there is any sort of event (in comics or in the world), this is one of my first stops to see what the gang has to say.

Seems like on every forum, there is some small %age of people who want to simplify things into left vs right or christian vs non-christian when things are really much more complex than that.  Jodi and I are both liberal progressives in Indiana (rare creatures indeed), but we don't agree on everything.  It's not an orthodoxy.  And we when do disagree, I like to think we do so amiably.  Most of my experiences here have been quite pleasant.

And there's always the ignore feature.

If you draw a Venn Diagram of people I disagree with but enjoy talking to here and then compare that with a Venn Diagram of people I disagree with and ignore because of uncivil discourse, you have more spare time than I do.

The bottom line is you will not always make everyone happy with how
any forum is run. What would make one person happy will make
another person angry. Religion and politics are the most divisive topics
one can discuss. Debates don't always go the way one would like. One
person believes we lean left. Another person thinks we side with the
right. It truly is your own bias that effects the way you look at
discussions.

On a side note. Complaining about keeping Star Trek discussions in the
Star Trek thread is just plain silly. We do so to keep the forum a cleaner
and easier place to navigate. Not because of some power trip. Please
refer to what I said about personal bias effecting the way you look at
things.

On an even more tangential note... Paul, I like your Avatar!

I love coming to the forum. There are so many more positives to
coming here. The negatives are few and usually avoidable. I have been
lucky to not only had the chance to talk to some really good people
through the forum but have met quite a number of great people in the
real world. It's quite a unique place with my favorite creator at the helm.
I don't think I'd change much if anything about it.

I would say if people want a forum run their way than they should start
their own forum!

The cartoon posted by JB is exactly how a lot of people around the
Internet and industry feel. They believe "facts" told to them 10th hand
(we are way beyond 2nd hand) and form a judgment without true
knowledge. Most have never even met JB! I feel fortunate for all the
interactions I get to have. I almost feel bad for the jealousy/hate that
others have for reasons they are not even sure of (any name omitted
since I am sure they are reading this).

That Christians can be persecuted is no surprise to anyone aware of history and current events. It's a bit insulting to point out, "Hey, Christians can be killed for their religion!" None of that is really relevant to the context in which Christians as an "oppressed minority" was being discussed.
***
Michael when someone says "if Christianity was really a beleaguered minority, I'd be right on the front lines defending it", I think you could be forgiven for thinking they probably don't know about the escalating persecution in parts the Middle East.(most people don't actually) If you can explain how someone aware of the violent campaign to rid the Middle East of Christianity, makes that statement let's hear it? Or at least tell me why it's an "insult" to not  ASSUME they know about it?

None of that is really relevant to the context in which Christians as an "oppressed minority" was being discussed.

Again...I was responding to a quoted section of a specific post. The subject matter doesn't jive with the much preferred perception of Christians as bullies/dimwits, but please let's not pretend it was  non sequitur.
