Does anyone else on the forum think his (Power Man) old look was better?

I do, but how much of that is purely aesthetics vs nostalgia. I never understood having the "Power Man" name, but using Luke Cage thing though.

"This "bald with a goatee" guy seems like an imposter."

Totally agreed. I mean, fine, if you want to update his look a bit, go ahead, but don't take away every single one of his distinctive elements all at once!

As much as I love Power Man's outfit, it is SO heavily dated...definitely a fave.....but so dated.

Why not just give Power Man a form-fitting yellow shirt instead of a loose
one, and make his chain belt a solid steel band instead?

Wallace -

If you get rid of the Yellow cuff on the boots I think it'd be a big improvement.

And Cage is one of those characters who suffered from the "black becomes blue" coloring problem that we've discussed here before.  Make his pants black and they're 100% better.

And make the chain belt big and clunky - I think it works better that way -

Unfortunately Cage evolved into this over the years -

Which led to this -

........

I think they did something like that once.

Did he find those boots at a garage sale in Westchester County?

Hey, at least he isn't "Black Power" Man. oh, wait, is that what they were thinking?

I think he was like the first black superhero (after the Falcon) to not have "Black" as part of his name. And maybe the last for a while.

But, then again, my superhero name is Pasty White Lad, so what do I know?

Roy -

Marvel was actually pretty good at not throwing the work "black" in the character's names (with the exception of Black Goliath).  Sure, there were blacksploitation elements to Luke Cage and the Falcon, but I think they were pretty good about avoiding it in most cases.

1966 - Black Panther (Wakandan)
1969 - Falcon
1969 - Prowler
1972 - Luke Cage
1973 - Blade
1973 - Brother Voodoo (Haitian)
1973 - N'Kantu, the Living Mummy (Egyptian)
1974 - Abe Brown (Sons of the Tiger)
1974 - Deathlok
1974 - Iron Man (Eddie March)
1975 - Black Goliath (Bill Foster was introduced in 1966)

I love almost every costume design that JB has made over the years but nothing compares to Guardian IMO. I love that costume so much! I was pretty bummed by the most recent attempt at Alpha Flight because I thought Dale Eaglesham was a great choice as artist. Unfortunately, the storyline (along with Heather and Marrina's characterizations) ruined it for me.

As far as Luke Cage goes, his old look was very distinctive and now nothing about him screams SUPERHERO! I thought giving him a knitted cap during the early days of the New Avengers looked dumb but then I saw that Marvel did the same thing with Thunderball of the Wrecking Crew.
