I'm all caught up on every fiction series I follow and am a bit "lost at sea" right now.
I read stuff like Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch, Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Robert Crais' Elvis Cole/Joe Pike, and Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme.
I just picked up an old paperback, Nathaniel, by John Saul to tide me over until I find something to jump into. I'm thinking of venturing into a good horror/thriller series. I'm not big on political stuff.
Anyone?

You should check out Dennis Lehane, I'm in the middle of Darkness, Take My Hand and I'm enjoying it. It's part of a series of books that feature the characters from Gone Baby Gone, if you're familiar with the movie( I haven't seen it). The author also wrote Shutter Island and Mystic River and I just learned wrote some episodes of The Wire.

If it's supernatural horror you're looking for, I love Christopher Farnsworth's Nathaniel Cade series.
President Andrew Johnson once commuted the death sentence of a man accused of being a vampire. That part is true. Farnsworth's books are based on the idea of what might happen if it really was a vampire and he's been working as a secret operative for every U.S. president since Johnson. There are three books in the series so far: BLOOD OATH, THE PRESIDENT'S VAMPIRE, and RED, WHITE AND BLOOD.
They're fast-paced, a lot of fun, suspenseful, and full of little references that horror fans will enjoy without them getting in the way of the plot.

Wow! Thanks very much. These all sound very intriguing.
I used to be a huge Dean Koontz fan and read everything he put out, but then somewhere between The Taking and Your Heart Belongs To Me he kind of lost me. I started reading 77 Shadow Street on Monday and brought it back to the library on Tuesday because it bored the hell out of me. Immediately.
I've read some LeHane - Shutter Island and Mystic River. Loved them both!
I do believe I have some good reading ahead of me.

I've long enjoyed James Rollins Sigma Force books: Sandstorm, Map of Bones, Black Order, The Judas Strain, The Last Oracle, The Doomsday Key, The Devil Colony, Bloodline and just released The Eye of God. He has also had a few related books tie-in that introduce other characters.
Sigma Force is an elite covert arm of the US Defense Department made up of former Special Forces officers trained as experts in various scientific fields. May not sound like it, but this series skews close to what you inquired about to a degree.

I'll second the Dresden Files suggestion.
For horror you might want to try the Necroscope series by Brian Lumley.

Brian Lumley's Necroscope series. It's about Vampires from another world and people with esp powers that try to stop them. There's a lot of spy vs spy that goes on in the series. Lumley's vampires are really monsters nothing like the Twilight vamps. Lumley is a huge fan of H.P. Lovecraft. You'll find much of Lovecraft's influence in Lumley's writing.
edited to add I posted before seeing Gil's post.

Another vote for the Dresden Files. I'm not into horror, so I'll share what I like. Not sure if you're into alternate histories or not, but check out Harry Turtledove's "Southern Victory" series. It makes up 11 novels, starting with How Few Remain. You may also want to check out S.M. Stirling's "Emberverse" series. The 10th novel is due out next month.

Michael Hogan's DYING HAND TO MOUTH. The first in a series of murder mysteries. The second one -- A BOTTLE TO THE DEATH -- is due out early next year.
Can't fault a guy for trying, can you?
