I recall Amazing Spider-Man #136 (September 1974) had one of those "low resolution" double page spreads
i don't remember the double page spreads the way you describe them - any chance you could provide a scan (if you can't, i understand, my old scanner has been rendered useless by these dang new operating systems with 7's and 8's - stopping me from starting a thread that depends on 1 example)

BTW, my LCS had a sale and I picked up the second volume of the Superman Sunday Newspaper Strips '46-'49 yesterday. If you haven't seen any of IDW's Library of American Comics collections, they're very nice. The reproduction quality is pretty amazing considering the age of the strips and the fact that many of these haven't been reproduced since they were originally published.
The strips themselves only credit Siegel and Shuster but the contents page credits Wayne Boring as the artist on many of these. Boring, IMO, doesn't really get enough credit for his work on the character although it's gotten better in recent years. Beautiful stuff.

Nice Stephen. I love the Library of American Comics too. Love to see them do a Sky Masters. The Greg Theakston one was nice but IDW could do it right.

If you haven't seen there X-9 SECRET AGENT CORRIGAN books by Al Williamson you should check it out. Not the same as Sky Masters at all but equally cool in it's own right.

Mine hasn't arrived yet. Saw someone posting shots someplace online - looked great.

Mine came in today. This is another great job by Scott and Co. I think the scans here are better than I've seen in the last few. While not on every page, there are places where you see variations in the inks. I love looks at Buscema's pages and seeing how much pencil undrawing there is on his pages. I don't know if any of the Surfer pages had them, but Buscema was know for sketching on the back of the boards. If they did, they are not included in this volume. Maybe if there's enough interest, IDW could do a John Buscema AE of just those.
The design is not quite as eye catching as some, but it's still very elegant and nice. Kinda similar to the first Romita ASM volume. All the way 'round, I'm very pleased with this one.
Oh, and it came shrink wrapped as well. That was a gripe I had about a previous volume.

Next up is sort of a volume two. It's the Jim Steranko NICK FURY/CAPTAIN AMERICA Artist Edition. This one will have a choice of two different covers. One is the famous Nick Fury in space cover, the other is the Captain America standing pose cover with Hydra pop art behind him.

John Buscema was known for sketching on the back of his oa pages. Though that was later in his career and the more sketches he did on the back the less interested he was with what he was drawing on the front.
