William, please be sure to give us a report when it arrives. A buddy of mine spent $125 on the Genesis West Conan book. Never have I seen a man that angry before. I expect these will be better than that, but like I said, IDW set the bar very high.

Paul, don't forget the ALIEN book by Titan. That's one of Walt's too. IDW is also doing his STARSLAMMERS as well.
I hope when it's finished, IDW will take Walt's RAGNAROK and do an Artist Edition with it.

Stephen, I have the Alien AE as well as the Thor from Walt. Both are amazing collections. Still not convinced on The Lawnmower Man. Cool adaptation just not worth the $100 for me. I would be all over an Orion AE. Someone get on that one immediately!

Lawnmower Man won't be $100 as it is just a portfolio. Suspect it will be $29.99, like the others.
Ragnarok AE? I would buy that in a heartbeat. I am really looking forward to that series. Also would love to see Simonson's Elric the Making of a Sorcerer (and how about Orion and Metal Men?) as Artist Editions.
IDW has done such a fantastic job on these that I'll have to see the Dark Horse and DC efforts before buying (Dark Horse has done a nice job with Hellboy Library Editions so hopeful). I heard the Barry Smith Red Nails AE wasn't so good but haven't seen it in person yet.

While it's cool to see it I guess. It leaves a lot of wasted space. IMO, it's done this way to drive up the page count. Gotta make sure you can justify that $100+ price tag, you know. Also, the pages have a semigloss finish to them. So, you don't really get the effect of looking at an art board.

I leafed through it at SDCC last year, and maybe I'm spoiled by the IDW editions, but it didn't impress me. It cost more, had fewer pages, and, worst of all to me, used glossy paper. I'm a big fan of BWS and I really wanted that Red Nails volume, but I passed on it.

Thanks guys. It is going to be a pass for me too. If I had zillions sitting around I'd get one (love Red Nails a lot) but... the economic recovery has not hit my home yet.

I found on the Diamond web site where it lists the NEW GODS AE as part of the May 7th releases from IDW and then when you click on it it says "in stores" on May 14th. Hopefully one of those is right!

Also would love to see Simonson's Elric the Making of a Sorcerer (and how about Orion and Metal Men?) as Artist Editions. ----------------------------------------------- According to solicitation, I think some Metal Men material is being included in the Manhunter AE.

My copy of the Jack Kirby edition arrived yesterday. It's quite thing to behold. Impossible to take in all at once, it's just too rich a meal! It's something see the artwork at the scale which it was drawn. Immersive, really --as one's whole field of vision becomes encompassed by the art. Kirby's particular expression of perspective and foreshortening can pack even more of a wallop this way.
The gatefold pages are an additional treat and have a couple of unexpected surprises.
The printing is exceptional, which I've come to expect with these editions. Though, I wasn't always thrilled with the quality of the scans. Most of the artwork is treated exceptionally well. You can see the tone of the original art board, vestiges of pencil lines and subtle tonality in the inks. Yet, fully a third of the scans have the contrast cranked way to high and it's at the expense of those qualities that make it look and feel like original artwork. I can only imagine how difficult it is to acquire the art for these books and what it must take to have each page scanned. Still, I was left wanting for a little bit more quality control on that front.
Still, so very happy to have it!
