Invisible Woman in - That Sinking Feeling. by Orson Lynch
Pg 1.
(Add "Stan Lee and John Byrne Present…" in the title box!)
Caption: The Fantastic Four, explorers, adventurers, superheroes, are known and respected throughout the universe.
Locals will tell you that the Fantastic Four make their home at the famous Baxter Building, in bustling Manhattan, but truly, there are many places where they are welcomed as if it is their own home.
For example, today, we find Susan Storm Richards, the Invisible Woman, in a rare moment of relaxation, in the Richards’ guest chamber at the equally famous Stark Avenger’s Mansion, while her husband, Reed Richards, also known as Mr Fantastic, works in the Avenger’s lab downstairs.
Pg 2.
Panel 1.
Caption: Their son, Franklin, is also with them…
Franklin: MOM! MOOOM!! Watch Mom, I can make Spidey-Man climb the wall!
Sue: (Thought) Wha..?
Panel 2.
Franklin: Mom…?
Sue: Franklin! Oh, for…
Panel 3.
Sue: Franklin Richards! Knock on the door before you come in!
Panel 4.
Sue: Especially in the bathroom, dear…
Franklin: I… I’m sorry…
Panel 5.
Sue: It’s ok, Franklin, you just surprised me… come here in my room, and show me your toy while I get dressed…
Franklin: Wait… Mom…?
Page 3.
Panel 1.
Sue: Yes, dear?
Franklin: er… explosion….
Sue: What, honey?
Panel 2.
Sue: Franklin? Honey, did you say something?
Franklin: Hunh? No… no… what?
Panel 3.
Caption: As if on cue…
SFX: BOOOM!
Sue: Franklin!
Sue - Thought: He knew! I didn’t even have time to get a shield up, and yet he knew! We MUST look into his strange powers!
Panel 4.
Sue: Franklin, wait here! I’m going to check and see what’s happening. Stay here unless you hear from one of us, or Jarvis or Captain America!
Franklin: OK, Mommy. Don’t get hurt!
Page 4.
Panel 1.
Sue - Thought: "Don’t get hurt"... don’t worry, Franklin… thanks to a trip through the Cosmic Rays….
Panel 2.
Sue - Thought: I not only turn Invisible, but I have shields, and can ride these shields, through the flames, to get to the bottom of this…
Panel 3.
Sue - Thought: Stark’s Fire Droids have the fire in hand, and there hasn’t been a second explosion…
Panel 4.
Sue - Caption: But look, there, in the smoke! Jarvis!
Jarvis: Cough! Cough! Mr. Richards! Cough!
Panel 5.
Sue: Jarvis! What did you say?
Jarvis: Mrs Richards! Quick! The explosion came from the lab..! Where Mr Richards was working!
Sue: No!
Page 5.
Panel 1.
Sue: You stay here, I’m going in for him!
Jarvis: But… Mrs Richards…!
Sue: The fire can’t hurt me; it won’t get through my shields!
Panel 2.
Jarvis: Mrs Richards! The fire doesn’t concern me… it’s the rising radiation level!
Sue: I can’t worry about that; I must get to Reed!
Page 6.
Panel 1.
Sue - Thought: It’s… difficult to see through this smoke… but I must find him!
Panel 2.
Sue - Thought: Wait! There he is!
Sue: REED!
Panel 3.
Sue - Caption: He’s out cold! But the suit’s bio-signs show that he’s still alive…!
Panel 4.
Sue - Thought: Unf! He’s so… heavy and… bulky… I’ve got to get him out of here… my brave words aside, the radiation levels are getting worrisome…
Panel 5.
Sue: No time to drag him! Let’s see what these force fields are good for!
Panel 6.
Jarvis: Ma’mm…?
Sue: He’s … alive!
Reed: S…sue…?
Page 7.
Panel 1.
Caption: A few hours later, in a lab of the Baxter Building…
Reed - Caption: Well, Sue, I’m happy to inform you…
Panel 2.
Reed: There appears to be no ill effects from your exposure to the Cygnum Particle Generator that I was working on.
Panel 3.
Sue: That’s wonderful.
Sue: But the radiation levels in the room seemed pretty intense… You can imagine my concern…
Panel 4.
Reed: Well, Sue… I’ve run every test on you that I know of, and they all came out just fine.
Sue: Reed, I know…
Panel 5.
Reed: And Besides, do you honestly believe that I’d knowingly put you in some sort of danger?
Sue: oh, Reed…
Page 8.
Panel 1.
Caption: A few hours later, in New York’s Central Park, at the famed Tavern on the Green, Sue Richards enjoys a lunch with an old friend…
Friend: Wait, you fought a….Skull? Did it have eye-balls in it?
Sue: No, no, it was a Skrull. A little green alien who can change his appearance…
Panel 2.
Friend: ….uh… like Yoda?
Sue: Don’t be silly, dear… Yoda can’t change his appearacnce…
Panel 3.
Friend: I don’t know about any of that… my husband takes me to those films, and they do nothing for me…
Panel 4.
Sue: Well, I’m not sure who is better off! My husband takes me to see them in real life…
Friend - off camera: Yoda is real?
Sue: Don’t be silly, dear…
Page 9.
Panel 1.
Sue - Caption: But Skrulls, on the other hand… when I first met Reed, I knew he was an ambitious scientist, but I had no idea…
Panel 2.
Sue - Caption: He had me at "Your bio-structure is flawless…", but when he plotted to fly an experimental test rocket to outer space, well…
Panel 3.
Sue - Caption: There was no way I would have thought that I’d be on it, with him! I’ve seen a few Star Wars films, but this… this was something else altogether!
Panel 4.
Sue - Caption: He explained to his co-pilot, Ben Grimm, that I was along to help with the scientific research….
Panel 5.
Sue - Caption: Maybe Ben believed that, and maybe he didn’t but I’m not sure what Reed told him to justify having my little brother Johnny along for the ride…
Panel 6.
Sue - Caption: As you, er, may have read, we passed through some cosmic rays….
Panel 7.
Sue - Caption: Which resulted in all four of us gaining fantastic abilities…
Page 10.
Panel 1.
Sue - Caption: I’m sure Reed would like nothing more than to devote himself to scientific research and family life, but our research and exploration often cause us to have to do, er, a bit more…
Man - Caption: Pardon me, Mrs Richards…?
Panel 2.
Man: I’m sorry to interrupt you, but… well, you saved me and my family once when there was an invasion of … well, they looked like crabs….
Sue: Oh, the Clam’mit’ts! I remember! How are you?
Man: Fine, thanks to you! I just wanted to thank you… and get your autograph…?
Panel 3.
Sue: My pleasure…
Panel 4.
Sue: Here you are…
Man: Thanks again Mrs…
Panel 5.
Man: Richards??
Page 11.
Panel 1.
Friend: Sue… you never told me about that power…!
Sue: That’s not… supposed…
Man: Woah…
Panel 2.
Sue: I don’t feel so…
Man: Can I get you anything?
Sue: Just need to steady myself…
Panel 3.
Sue: Whooop!!
Friend: Susan!!
Panel 4.
Sue: erm, I need to get back to Reed and have him take a look at me… I’m sorry to rush off… like this…
Panel 5.
Sue - Thought: What could be wrong with me? Some new aspect of my power? An effect of the radiation? Oh, Reed…
Page 12.
Panel 1.
Sue - Thought: I’ve got to get to Reed…he’ll know what to do…
Panel 2.
Sue - Thought: Surely Reed would’ve noticed if it were something to do with the Radiation…
Panel 3.
Sue - Thought: The fastest way back will be to ride my force shields across the park…
Panel 4.
Sue - Thought: Hm… what’s that going on down there?
Sue - Thought: Oh, I mustn’t look… I feel terrible, and I need to get to Reed, in case something is wrong… but… there seem to be a lot of…
Sue - Thought: Police…
Page 13.

Panel 4.

Sue - Thought: But…
Sue: Yes, Officer?
Panel 5.
Lookup: We need help in the worst way, Mrs Richards!
Page 14.
Panel 1.
Sue: W-what seems … to be the problem… o-officers?
Sue - Thought: I can’t do this… I’m so sick…
Panel 2 (the hand):
Sue - Thought: I can’t even hold my hand steady…
Panel 3 (cop heads)

Panel 4 (gunman)

Panel 5 (hand)
Sue - Thought: I have no choice…
Panel 6.
Sue: Ok… F-fill me in…
Lookup: Great! You’re a live-saver Ma’mm!
Sue: Let’s hope so…
Page 15
Panel 1.
Lookup: There’s at least 6 or 7 guys, with automatic weapons in there, and a whole lot of terrified tourists. Every time we’ve even tried to talk to them, they’ve shot either one of us or one of the hostages. We don’t even know what they want!
Panel 2.
Sue: Hokay… not to sound immodest, but I think I’m perfect for this - a little stealth will go a long way…
Panel 3.
Caption: A few feet away…
Thug #1: Thanks for the light…
Thug #2: Yeah… after smoking that pig, you need a smoke… you hear something?
Thug #1: Like… heavy breathing?
Panel 4.
Thud!
Panel 5.
Sue - Thought: This can’t be good… I’m so sick that they can hear me sneaking up on them….
Sue - Thought: Just as long as they can’t see me, I’m a step ahead of them…
Panel 6.
Sue: Nggghh! OH!
Sue - Thought: It’s getting worse…!
Page 16.
Panel 1.
Thug #1: Hey, not that it matters, what with this mission likely being our last, but, seriously, have you seen the new T-16?
Thug #2: No, I’ll have to check that out…
Panel 2.
Sue - Thought: Such inhumanity! Weberian Modernity, I believe it’s called… I’m not well enough to get close; I might slip up or make a mistake… so I’ll handle this from a distance…
Panel 3.
Thug: Wha-HEY!!
Panel 4.
Sue - Caption: A few shield knocks to the head should keep them quiet…
THUD/THUNK
Page 17.
Panel 1.
Sue: BOO!
Thug: Whu?!
Panel 2.
Sue- Thought: There’s another one up on the next level… sick as I am, I should be able to sneak up on him pretty easily…
Panel 3.
Sue - Thought: Whulp… another wave of nausea… I’d almost think I was pregnant… Got to stay focused…
Panel 4.
Sue: WHA? Falling through… the WALL?
Thug: HEY!
Page 18.

Panel 2.
Sue: My job…
Thug: Ngh!!
Panel 3.
Sue: …As sick as I am….
Panel 4.

Thug - Thought: I’ve got to check out that new T-16…
Panel 5.
Panel 6.
Sue: That seems to be the last of them… which is good, because…
Page 19.
Panel 1.
Sue: I’m dead on my feet…
Panel 2.
Sue - Thought: I don’t even feel strong enough to make it back to Reed…
Panel 3.
Sue - Thought: Well, after I turn over these criminals to the police, maybe I can rest, or have them drive me … home…
Panel 4.
Sue: Officer? Can you send in your men, with something to tie up this riff-raff?
Panel 5.
Eyesdown: Mrs Richards, you’re a hero. You’ve saved dozens of lives today; if there’s anything we can do to repay you?
Panel 6.
Sue: Well…normally we’d say no to a kind offer like that, but...
Panel 7.
Sue: I neeed… heeeelp….
Eyesdown: MRS STORM!
