( the page on the right is a Conan page by the other JB, John
Buscema, and I love it too !)

Let's hope that sees an Artist's Edition soon. Out of all the info that's
going to be coming from SDCC, Scott Dunbier's report on up coming
Artist's Editions is what I'm eager to here.

Does the artist's edition feature JB's raw pencils or pencils + inks?

Thanks, Brennan.

I phrased my question poorly: are any of the raw pencils visible on any
of the pages?  Any un-inked pages? If so, what percentage?

Sorry, but I'm not familiar enough with the process to know where/when
in production inks are applied.  I'd love to see John's raw pencil work. I'd
be willing to shell out for that as it's my particular interest.

Quick question for Christophe Malgrain:

Can you tell us what series/issue your Conan page is from? Even though it's Buscema's artwork, I find there's a certain Byrne vibe going on there.

Thanks!

This volume is reproduced from color scans of the original pages. As such, a lot of the "work" shows here that is not normally seen in the printed comics. Editorial blue lines, white out, razor scratching, and, yes the "ghosts" of the pencils can be seen here and there.

But none of the pages are scanned from pencils only. All are inked.

I had this volume for more than a week and did not attempt to open until I had uninterrupted time to pour over the pages.  It's honestly like seeing the pages for the first time.  There is so much there, I opened a printed copy of some of the pages and it's incredible to compare.

A lesson learned from collecting original art is just how much is lost in the printing. Especially in Ye Olden Days of letterpress and pulp paper. But even today, with offset printing and the best grades of paper -- we still have to contend with colorists who think they can "fix" the art by laying in every filter they have in their version of Photoshop, and/or knocking out black lines with color.

Pedro: it's a page from Savage Sword of Conan, but unfortunately the issue and page number are not indicated. The page seems to have been trimmed.

I actually got to hold a sealed one in my hand Saturday. I value my life, so I didn't buy it. Dammit, but I came THIS close.

At my LCS yesterday the owner showed me his last packed copy
of the Artist's Edition. If that thing was unpacked and I'd been able
to peruse its inner gorgeousness, there's little doubt I would've
resisted making a purchase.

Unfortunately, this Summer has been a constant season of travelling
so the wallet's suffered tremendously--and there's a Seattle trip and
camping/kayaking adventure still ahead!

It's his last copy and he said it'll probably be gone tomorrow.  I'd love
to pull the trigger and bask in the largeness and wonder.  Hopefully, there
will be another chance down the road.
