What is funny is that according to JB Chris was going to kill off Logan.•• Not what I have said. Chris wanted to write Wolverine out of the book. Back in those days, that was not an automatic death sentence.

Sorry for putting words in your mouth JB.
Another thing that I mentioned several times in the past, for all of his supposed abilities, many which were added later. Logan stayed in his lane pretty much when it came to to fighting the bad guys.
- #108 gets punched into outer space and
- #109 gets whipped by Hudson
- #112 gets cold cocked by his Magneto controlled hand
- #113 Tossed aside by Magneto
- #115 hypnotized by Sauron and blasted by Cyke twice!!D
- #119 Decked by Moses Magnum
- #120 Beaten by Sasquatch
- #123 Sucker Punched by Colossus
- #124 Decked by Colossus
- # 126 spooked by Proteus
- # 128 Beaten by Cyclops
Even though those are just a few..it was clear that the appealing feature for Wolverine is that you just knew did have the potential to really tear sh%*t up:
- Killed a Petrasaur and saved Banshee in #114
- Evicerated Proteus in #128
- Did who knows what to the guards in #131
- Went Billy Bad Ass on the Hellfire guards in #133
- Defining Wolverine Moment under Byrne: Beating Wendigo in #140
But when you think about it, that was what Wolverine was trained for, to go toe to toe with the Hulk and Wendigo.

This.
This is the Wolverine I loved; rough & tumble, rude, somewhat of an asshole, not afraid to try and take anyone/everyone on, but at the same time, not able to take on anyone/everyone on. He got his ass handed to him as he should have at times.
I'm just waiting for someone to have him lift Mjolnir and/or punch a Watcher next.

I remember overhearing a guy in a comic book shop one time who seriously thought that Wolverine could take out Galactus.

Well, maybe if he had time to prepare...

The Wolverine character I've liked is plenty violent and deadly. He's the guy who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty and do what most other people won't to do what needs to be done and make things right. The difference is, the Wolverine character I've liked carries around the guilt and weight of conscience of the things he's done. That's what makes him still a hero, is that weight of conscience and that remorse over what he did, even though he still believes it was necessary.
Writing him as a casual mass murderer, which has become the commonplace and which I dislike, isn't anything new though. In the first issue of his original ongoing series, Claremont had Wolverine kill 180 people, wipe his hands off, and then move on to the next adventure next issue.

I understand Galactus originally had that big "G" on his chest so that the bad guys would have something to aim at.
