Issue 202 was the first that I read, but I started collecting the title regularly from 222 so would need to go with that line-up:
Thor Cap Iron Man Wasp Hawkeye She-Hulk
That gives me two free picks but I'm inclined to stay with that vintage plumping for:
Beast Ant-Man (Scott Lang)

...which is about as perfect as it gets, but if I HAD to add three more, I might go with She-Hulk, the Vision and the Black Panther -- tho I will admit I pick T'Challa mostly on the basis of thinking he's a really cool character. With Cap already on the team, the Panther might be a bit redundant.

Redundancy is the problem I keep coming up with, and I don't really know that the team should be more than 6-8...and in some ways even 8 seems like too much.

Hmmm, now that I see a couple of other choices, an android might have been good for my team(as in the Vision). Not sure if that would be redundant though, as I feel Iron Man(s armor) can interact with all the computers/tech.

He does the same if he sticks his hand into someone's chest!

Growing up in the '70's the Vision was featured in that corner circle next to the Avengers logo and it is forever ingrained in my brain that the Vision has to be in the Avengers.
