I'm tempted to argue that mutants on the Avengers is a mistake

I prefer an Avengers that is not too powerful, so Vision and Scarlet Witch are out for me.

Here's my team:

Captain America
Thor
Iron Man
Giant Man
Wasp
Beast

maybe the Black Panther

I'll take Thor as my final pick.

Wow, Peter.  You have some pretty high standards when the son of Odin barely makes the team.

As far as my team its not too different from those mentioned already.

My first three were easy:
Cap
Thor
Iron Man

The next two were a toss up between couples but I've always been sweet on Wanda so:
Scarlet Witch
Vision

The last three were picked from a pool of about seven or eight:
Wonder Man (need another heavyweight)
Beast (somebody has to lighten the mood)
Hawkeye (every team needs a hothead that will fly off the handle on occasion)

Although I listed Hawkeye last he was easily in my top five.

I didn't like the make up of my team with both Scarlet Witch & Vision and Giant Man & Wasp and even though I couldn't pick the Scarlet Witch without the Vision and vice-verse I wouldn't have any qualms about picking either Giant Man or Wasp as my ninth.

I believe the Avengers' appeal relies to a large degree upon their rotating roster, so whatever band of eight I picked to start out with, I wouldn't plan on anyone remaining for too long. I also like the idea of having new members who've never avenged before, fitting in or failing to do so. While I loved Wanda, Pietro, and the Vision, Hank and Jan, and Wonder Man and the Beast, and feel much could still be done with those combos, I'd like for new match-ups to hopefully stir readers' imaginations in a similar way.

So, who would I have on my team? (at least at first...)
Captain America (It's almost as if it's not really the Avengers without him)
Sub-Mariner (He and Dorma would be the team's big ongoing romance)
The Contessa (SHIELD/Govt. Liason)
Falcon (Cap could use a pal on the team, and no, Tony doesn't count anymore...)
Scott Lang (Hank Pym without the strings attached)
She-Hulk (Why would anyone do a book without She-Hulk if they didn't have to?)
Iron Man (Turns out to be an advanced LMD Tony's driving remotely. He is literally phoning it in...)
Jocasta ('Cause I'm a sucker for a lady robot)

Yes, I'm sure some of these people are dead at the moment, but by the time anyone would ever ask me to do an Avengers title, they'll likely be back.

I came on when Byrne and Perez were swapping the artist roles and Marv Wolfman had a stint as the writer, so this will always be my core Avengers team:

1. Captain America
2. Wonder Man
3. Scarlet Witch
4. Vision
5. Beast
6. Yellow Jacket
7. Wasp

Occasionally, I might have one of these stalwarts show up:

1. Thor
2. Iron Man
3. Hawkeye

And there would be no Wolverine on this team!

1. Captain America

2. Iron Man

3. Thor

4. Vision

5. Captain Marvel/Photon/Monica Rambeau

6. Scarlet Witch

7. Black Panther

8. Ms. Marvel

I hate to leave out Hawkeye, Giant-Man, Wasp, She-Hulk, and Hercules but narrowing to eight is tough.

I liked this character a lot - one of the few of the Dr. Druid/Starfox era that I could enjoy. I just wish they had given her a better name originally.
