3. Thor
4. Hawkeye

6. Hank Pym
7. Vision
8. Hulk ( yeah, I said it!)

Kudos on making it eight. It really makes it hard. I really think of it as
a team of tweleve.

Not to get off topic too much, but trying to pick the 8 reminds me of something I loved so much about JB's run on Avengers. Hawkeye NOT being on the team was a great device. Some new Avengers got to be on the team for awhile, and he was always showing up anyways. He even had an entire issue in the spotlight, if I recall correctly. As a younger reader, I shared Clint's outrage. Going back and re-reading it recently, I realized that while he wasn't "on the team", he was still in the book a lot.

I love the Scarlet Witch, and her presence does improve the diversity of the team, but I'm tempted to argue that mutants on the Avengers is a mistake, one that leads to Spider-Man (non-mutant, but ultimately a loner) and Wolverine joining.

It only took 40 years for that to happen.  That's one looooong, slippery slope.

Iron Man
Captain America
Thor
Hank Pym
Wasp
Scarlet Witch
Hawkeye
Vision

(no Hulk or Quicksilver - they never wanted to stick around anyways)

Eight is tricky because for years now I've had my ideal seven-member roster.

Iron Man
Thor
Hank Pym (any identity)
Wasp
Captain America
Hawkeye
She-Hulk

So, for an eighth slot, I don't want to overdo it on super-strong characters, which leaves out some of my favorites like Beast, Hercules, and Namor. So, how about a rookie with a power unlike the others' ...

Firestar

I also have lineups in my head for a West Coast team and an International Team, but that's not the game for this thread.

I'd like to see those line ups...

I agree, and that's why Beast never makes my list, but since Scarlet Witch was never an X-man, she's an exception for me.

hmm...to me, the ideal Avengers roster is:

Captain America
Iron Man
Thor
Hawkeye
Scarlet Witch
Vision

With Giant-Man (or Ant-Man/Yellowjacket) and the Wasp as backups to be called upon as needed.

Okay, twist my arm, Jesse ...

WC: Vision, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Crystal, Wonder Man, Beast, (Android) Human Torch  (no sane person would allow a team this full of ex-lovers and brain-patterns-twins to exist, but it would make for great drama)

International: Black Widow, Hercules, Black Panther, Namor, Black Knight  (silly to have so many similarly-named members, I know.  Still, a nice group, I think)
