William, I believe that Swords of Sorcery was always meant to be an 8 issue, limited series(Or , at least, has been touted as that since the 2nd issue or so).

Due to an unusual work schedule this week I wasn't able to stop by my LCS until today but I was pleasantly surprised when I got there and found this* waiting for me:
The shop I frequent does a good job of purchasing comics put out by companies other than the big two. Sometimes its only a few but since my shop knows I appreciate variant covers he'll order a few more in order to get it. There are still a few people who know how to run a LCS and take care of their customers.
*please don't let my lousy camera work diminish the beauty of this cover.

I was given the variant cover, too! I subscribed to this as soon as JB announced it. Then I picked up the normal cover off the shelf, too. Last one there.
Wonderful issue. Very foreboding and eerie. Looking forward to more.

Excellent comic. I love the body language of the characters on the black and white cover--beautiful.

Reread it last night. It is the sort of comic I wish would go on and on. There seems to be so much to explore in this new devastated world.

What a great comic!!!! This first issue had so much to it it could almost be a stand alone story! No clue what's next and looking forward to finding out! I don't think I've ever cared so much about a group of strangers in a first issue before. Bravo JB! My LCS pulled both covers for me without my asking...they just know I'm a Byrne fan! I bought both to reward their diligence.

Joe, I loved the book, but if I has gotten to the last page and found it ended that way, I would head to New England and have a discussion with the author. ;)

Reread it last night. It is the sort of comic I wish would go on and on. There seems to be so much to explore in this new devastated world. •• I'm working on the fourth issue currently, and altho this wraps up the first miniseries, the concept as a whole is definitely open ended. I even send off some of the characters on the last page to investigate a new mystery. There's not much of the World left, but there's still plenty to explore!

Finally tracked down a copy last night, and it is indeed an amazing read. So great to see you doing sc-fi, JB - you always hit such a great groove in this genre.
I've been wondering who these people could be since you leaked the character line-up that became the alternate B&W cover. After just one issue you have given us enough of who these people are - we certainly see what people are made of in times of maximum danger and distress. You've given us a cast that we can engage with as they face a decimated world.
The president's speech is a fantastic page - very well written and hits just the right tone to lend this a feeling of real dread. I loved the use of panels on this page and also on the page on which the shuttle is orbiting Earth, watching the destruction.
Your art is at a place where you capture the characters and sci-f tech with equal precision. I love how much we see in the facial expressions of the characters - you really know how to capture the subtleties of each expression, as well as the Yulia's extreme anguish.
Amazing stuff, JB!

I really wanted to find the variant cover - it was based on the "pitch" art that JB posted early this year:

Been rereading this over and over. Great first issue. The dialogue is great from each of the characters. Like the colors from Leonard O'Grady. Favorite character for me is Captain Boyd. Off Topic: JB, I know you have talked about doing 4 issue mini-series with many of your creations. Do you have any one issue ideas we might be seeing in the near future?
