Not having read Doomsday+1, I couldn't figure out why a ship sent to help abandon the station would have a latch requiring someone to stay behind. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info.•• Not sure what info you think you've been given. The hatch was nothing to do with DOOMSDAY+1. Merely a "maguffin" to make happen what I needed to have happen. And, remember, the assumption was that the station would be evacuated in a peaceful manner, not under emergency conditions.

Knowing it is a "maguffin" and a wink helps it make sense. A planned evacuation where one person has to get left behind is a story unto itself or a design flaw in the shuttle along the lines of not converting computations into the metric system.

Just read the first issue, and loved it. Was brought up short by the ending, sitting there wanting more in a very good way. The vignettes featuring the earth-bound folks getting ready for the end were very well done. Can't wait to catch up to a certain fugitive from Italy as well as the population of a certain prison....and the crew of a certain seagoing vessel.

What a treat it is to read one of JB's stories these days! There are other writers I like, such as Moore or Waid, but I always have "buts" with them. I have to read Moore only from time to time if I want to enjoy his stories, otherwise I find them a little wearing. And sometimes I don't totally like the way Waid treats certain characters. But with JB there are no "buts", I enjoy his stories from beginning to end. Every character has his/her own voice (some of them, such as Wallace in High Ways have more than one!). And even though I like so called "decompressed" stories when they are well written, I enjoy better JB's way of telling his stories, with lots of thrilling things happening all the time. Thank you, John Byrne!

Great storytelling Chief, I was pulled right in. I really got a kick out of the 'Kuno' thing.
You mentioned earlier in this thread that a reviewer said this series was 'More accessible' I assume it's because it takes place in relatively contemporary times, rather than the far future of 'The High Ways'. Who can figure what internet reviewers mean, all I know is this issue was enthralling.

I enjoyed this book -- although it was far darker and more realistic than I expected. I am a fan of the original Doomsday series, so I enjoyed the tongue-in-cheek references to it. Although it was not what I expected, I enjoyed it nonetheless, and am looking forward to the rest of the series. How many issues are planned?

Great storytelling. I can't say I loved it. Not because it wasn't well executed but because of the subject matter. I AM very much looking forward to see where it goes.

I thought Doomsday.1 was great and am going to recommend it to my friends. DC cancelled Sword of Sorcery, which made me sad, but your new series made me really, really happy. Can't wait for the next issue, but I guess I'll have to.

Great start. I am hooked. Where is this going? I am happily clueless. At least Jacksonville FL survived. I have high hopes we can become the capital of the new world order. Or at least the barbque capital.
