One of the reviews describes the books as "one of the most accessible in a long time."
What the heck does THAT mean?????

At my local shop in the past two months, I've had casual conversations with two different strangers (apparently in their 30s) who thought that The Highways was great. The one I talked to last night was excited by my purchase of Doomdsay.1 and said he couldn't wait to read his own copy.

Is it cool to like John Byrne again?!

I saw a headline at an online news source this morning about a series of bad solar flares, and my first thought was about Doomsday.1. Great comic, but I hope it's not one of your curses. I see that Texas moved to yellow on your chart.

Wondering if there may be some supernatural tie- in added to the plot now?

What gives you that impression?

I really enjoyed the issue. It seemed full of dread and foreboding, which gave everything such a different vibe from my usual comic reading experience...but that's a good thing, as it stands out.

I know this might sound silly, but I seemed to relax a bit when I saw the wolf in the desert. It gave this feeling that some things were still (fairly) normal. Nice touch there, JB!

When I was formulating DOOMSDAY.1, I told a friend about it, and his response was "Sounds like it's going to be pretty dark!"

Well, you know, END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!

But I suppose the bottom line here is that, while this is not KAMANDI or DOOMSDAY+1, or any of a dozen or more others that took a more "light hearted" view of the end of the world, neither is it ON THE BEACH. My book is ultimately about hope.

I went to the two local comic shops in my area and neither of them were carrying it. ARGH!

The wolf actually. How could any living thing(other than insects perhaps)survive on land? Maybe I'm thinking too much of Stephen King's Stand or Robert R. McCammons Swan Song, both novels apocalyptic with a touch of supernatural. I would'nt be surprised to see you throw a curve here and there. :)

I'm surprised to read you feel that way, Bill! Most comics I try to read these days seem to be all about dread and foreboding. I feel like the whole industry has gone very DARK overall. Marvel is doing their own big "end of the world" thing right now with their 'Age of Ultron' series (and crossovers). I don't read a ton of comics these days because the I'm not a huge fan of grim and/or dark. JRjr's new Captain America series has been very dark too. I'm not making fun of the trend -- I feel there's a lot of it out there. It's actually hard for me to find comics that aren't dark!
