John Byrne gave gills to Namor!
It makes sense to have gills. It's realistic. Aquatic beings must have it.

I can understand them wanting to update Marina's costume as its a pretty simple "swimsuit" but holy cow, talk about trying too hard to make a character "cool". She looks like she was hashed out in a boardroom by people who think they know what "the kids" like.

I guess the fins on her boots are supposed to make up for the massive drag created by the open cleavage seaweed top.

If any characters need to follow the KISS rule, it's the aquatic ones.

Man, it must be a bitch maintaining those dyed steaks in her hair with repeated immersings in saltwater.

Please tell me you're joking: how can you have comics AND expect
them to be "realistic"?

Yes, Steven!
They shouldn't try too hard as they did for Marrina.
To me she was already cool enough. Her original look was already alien enough, different enough. I think they could have changed her swimsuit, because it's only natural that characters change clothes as often as ordinary people do. But why the tatts and piecings when she had already an original look?

Comics don't have to be "over realistic" like the Alan Moore's approach, but I think that little realistic aspects will not harm the genre, on the contrary.
