Americans have raised jingoism to the state of High Art, but we still manage to throw together an occasional phrase or image that proclaims who we are better than all the flag waving and chest thumping of idiots like the NRA and Fox News."The colors that never run" brings a lump to my throat every single time!

The shading and drapery of the flag is my favorite part of this one. And the shading on the shield. ( Odd thought: I'm surprised no one has actually given the shield a name after all these years. And no, I don;t think it needs one.)

Fantastic - and it never fails to impress me, seeing Captain America charging into the fray with only his shield. To hell with the notion of him having a gun 'because it's wartime' - aside from the fact that he's also a superhero, not just a common soldier, there's also that little teensy fact that he doesn't NEED one! Captain America is just THAT good!
And the flag, too - tattered but still standing. That sentiment is why 'The Star-Spangled Banner' is, to my mind, one of the most profound lyrics to any national anthem (as opposed to the rather bland 'God Save The Queen/King' we have over here - especially if you're not a Monarchist or a Theist!). There's something admirable about a song that is essentially "stick your head above the parapet, in the middle of a firefight, to check that the flag still stands" - stirring stuff!

(The latter obviously being the anthem the godless sodomites want to establish for this country once they utterly destroy civilization with their plans for Gay marriage!!)

JB - not just because Elgar is FANTASTIC, but because of the much more universal sentiment espoused ("land of hope and glory, mother of the free..." - even if you've just come over to live in the country from elsewhere, it's still applicable to all comers!), I've long said the very same!
Although, that said, I do like Billy Connelly's 'solution' too:

Just an amazing commission!
Cap again leading the charge, just brings a little tear to my eye.
As for Cap vs. Batman, I'd go for Batman. It's not an easy call, but Batman was first for me and I have more reading history with the Caped Crusader.
