It often brings a tear to my eye when I see, or draw, a battle-damaged flag. Just about anybody's flag, really, not just American. And not because it makes me sad to see the flag ripped and shredded, but because it gets to the core of what flags are FOR. They're really SUPPOSED to be up there, in battle, getting torn to shreds but proclaiming "We're still here!!"

JB.......I think you may have answered yourself why your affection for Cap is greater than that for the caped crusader. I have never seen Batman charging in to battle waving the colors of Gotham City.

That is one OUTSTANDING commission. An absolutely iconic representation of the character and once again I'm floored by the texture you bring to the page, Chief. Congrats to the owner.

Oh and let me add I love the subtle hints that Cap is in Europe (maybe Germany) during WW2.

Like I wrote on the the last posted commission... WOW. I have so many favorite comic book characters and you illustrate them all beautifully, I would have such a hard time deciding on only one. After seeing your Cap again, this sure narrows it down!Love all of the heavy ink used in this commission. The flag and wreckage look amazing. The shield and bullet ricochets have amazing angles and perspective. Yes, congratulations to JB and the owner.

Love all of the heavy ink used in this commission. •• Yes, the "rougher" line seemed more appropriate to the piece. This is mostly all (clipped) PITT Brush pen, with a F point used on Cap's head and face, the stripes and star on the shield, and some of the thinner lines in the background. Incidentally, I got a little wild and crazy on this one, and inked the lines on the shield freehand, instead of using a french curve.

That whole battered but unbowed attitude, that is so very much a part of the American personality.
Thank you for that, I have to say that just about encapsulates how I feel as an American in modern America!
Love that Cap!

The chainmail effect looks really good. And, wow, there's a battered look to everything -- that stuff's got to be precarious to walk on! I like the way the richocheting bullets fly out to meet the borders of the panel.
And the flag is awesome.
