If it's real, it's the best translation of JB's work I've ever seen.

Maybe a fake, but what a great idea for a tat! I don't have any, but if someone could do one this good I may be convinced...

Me: It's a fake.
----
Ronald: I used to be a tattoo artist and based on my experiences, I think that's the real deal based on three things:
1) You can see puffiness and redness in the skin along the very bottom.
2) You can see where the skin had bled/is about to bleed again on the lighter areas: Storm's hair, the white boxes up top, Wolverine's head, and Angel's hair.
3)There are some very minor imperfections in the numbers and letters - most notably, the "50 cents" and the "02461."
Of course, if it is fake, I'm sure one of you will be along any second now with the link proving so! :)
---
I have never seen someone translate line work so perfectly into a tattoo.

I haven't, either (when it comes to translating comic book art, anyway). That doesn't mean it can't be done, though. A quick Google search didn't lead me anywhere. This piece pops up several times, along with many, many horrid bastardizations of otherwise beautiful comic book art.
It'd make me feel good to know someone really did do this piece. Not because I want to be right, but because the talent involved would be an inspiration.

To me it doesn`t appear to follow the contour of the leg.

To me it doesn`t appear to follow the contour of the leg.•• That's one of the things that got me thinking fake. There would have to be a considerable degree of distortion in the shape of the tattoo, in order to get it to appear so perfectly square when seen on a curved surface like a human calf. And, of course, that would mean it would look very odd from anything but this straight-on angle.

As my friends with tattoos get older and their cool ink begins to fade and sag, I am relieved that I never considered getting one. I just don't get it. I have yet to see a tattoo that is worth wearing the rest of your life.

It is hard for me to tell, real or fake, but I just naturally think real based on how incredibly clear the linework is on the tattoo. I don't think that the printing on the issue itself was ever that clean and clear.
There are some pretty extraordinary tattoo artists out there.

Inking lines on paper is very different than tattooing lines onto skin. I don't feel it's really possible to make an exact tattoo replica of a comic book line drawing.

Isn't the line work in the B&W Essential volumes pretty clear and crisp? I wonder the art was scanned from that... and then photoshop'ed onto that shaved leg... adding some red to make it feel like a fresh tattoo...
