Fantastic!! I too miss the old Marvel. That cover brings back fond memories for me.

Well done JB!

JB.  Concerning the page you posted and wondering if a confrontation could be worked in the sequence, I have been wondering (haunted!) by the same thought since that issue was published!  Hence, the request for the commission and the larger format just for fun.  This exceeds my expectations, thanks!  Also, thanks to Jim who is always a professional in these requests.

I'm sure you hear this all the time, but no one draws Doom like you do.

Heh. Yes, Reed certainly was beefy in those days. And, of course, I stayed "on model", even tho I preferred the more slender version.

I read the Dark Phoenix Saga in a trade after I had already been reading your FF for a while (I think I started around #272). I had also read in an interview how you weren't happy with the muscle-bound depictions of Reed and Johnny (pulling from memory -- I don't remember your exact wording). So I understood what was going on with Reed in that shot. I preferred the leaner version, too.

Of course, it didn't take long after you left the book for Reed to begin putting on mass again. Maybe he stole it from Sue's outfit.

"I bet those giant gizmos on Dr. Doom's arms are going to allow him to siphon off (a portion of?) Phoenix's power, a la FF #57 when he stole the Power Cosmic from the Silver Surfer. I can't wait to find out how the FF defeat him, whether the X-Men get involved (including that new one, Kitty Pryde), and whether Doom has siphoned enough power to take Jean out of the picture or do our heroes have to take on both Doom and Phoenix at the same time."

It would be quite interesting if power-drained Phoenix turned back into Good Girl Jean Grey and our heroes had to choose between leaving all that power at the hands of Dr. Doom or making it go back to Jean, which would turn her evil again.
