When I first started reading comics from the '60s (as reprints) there were three guys whose Marvel work really jumped out at me - John Romita (Spider-Man), Neal Adams (X-Men and Avengers) and Gil Kane (Spider-Man).

And this was before I found out about his Green Lantern and Atom work!

Plus, at that point in time, his was Marvel's "go to" guy for drawing covers.  There was no shortage of Kane art out there.

Another downfall of Continuity was that they didn't come about during the speculator craze and have near-house organs like Wizard beating the drum for them throughout their ongoing periods of inactivity on the stands...

Gil Kane does beautiful work. He did a couple of Jungle Book stories that appeared in Marvel Fanfare and were later reprinted under their own title. Definitely worth checking out.

Quite the contrast between them and workhorses like Gil Kane...

••

I hope I'm not popping too many bubbles, here, but Gil used a lot of assistants. When the Artist's Edition of his SPIDER-MAN work came out from IDW, I emailed Scott Dunbier, the editor, to say I thought it was the best Joe Staton had ever looked.

(That was a JOKE. Joe did work as one of Gil's "ghosts", but later.)

I have a statue based upon the art from the Gil Kane Superman cover. I love the dynamic pose and the flaring cape!
