Ronald, there is a scene from the first Raimi Spider-Man film that has
Peter using his reflexes and speed to catch and balance food and drink
that were spilt from a tray, placing them neat back in place..... Took me
a minute to get the reference as well.

Thanks! I'd have never made that connection.

JB has pointed out in the past that if a Flash movie is ever made, including that classic scene would now probably have audiences assuming that it was ripped off from the Spider-Man movie, instead of vice versa.

Yep.

It's like when I'm listening to a song in the truck with the kids and they ask if it was taken from whatever current sampled version they'd been listening to.

Re: the food scene...

Once upon a time (early 2000s), I got to pitch a live-action Flash feature at WB.

I adapted Showcase 4 & one of the later issues w/ Captain Cold. I used the original art as "storyboards" to go along with the script.

The first Spider-Man movie had literally just come out (I hadn't seen it yet), which is what was making WB mouths water at the prospect of superhero $$$.

GUESS what one of the execs said about the plate-catching scene! Yes... that I'd swiped it from Raimi's film. (He also thought I had personally drawn the Showcase pages!)

Wow. What did he have to say after you corrected him? I hope they weren't all so clueless...

Lance,

The attitude was that it didn't matter at that point, because the moment would now always be associated with S-M by general audiences. They said I needed to find some other way for Barry to discover his speed (and offered some ridiculous suggestions I can't recall now).

One of several reasons why I wish I could believe there is a particularly toasty corner of Hell waiting for Sam Raimi.

Honestly, I think most non-comic fans might guess the same thing.
