••

"Us" in a somewhat narrow sense, tho. The broad fan base still seems to care not much about the "past". We still hear older artists dismissed, unless for some reason the fans have been instructed to pay proper attention -- as Image did with Kirby, when they adopted him as representing their own dire plight. ("Poor Jack! He got screwed over by Marvel! Just like US! Now excuse me while I go deposit this million dollar check.")

I had actually looked Infantino up just the other day and was pleased to see he was still alive.  Sigh.

Imagine how different our lives would be if he hadn't whipped up that zippy red suit for the "new" Flash.

One of the earliest comics I bought off a spinner rack was Flash 307. The cover (with a racing hero turning into sound) seemed so cool, I had to buy it!

I collected most of his second Flash stint as a young collector, and focused on his Silver run (and Batman/Detective work) as an 'old man'. I was admiring Batman 194 the other day, a wonderful cover with the logo part of the artwork.

I have tremendous respect for his craft and storytelling, as well as his involvement in so many entertaining comic yarns. A sad loss indeed!

Having Joe Orlando as an instructor in College, I had the pleasure of meeting Carmine Infantino on a day he subbed for Mr. Orlando.

Wonderful man and he was very straight forward about the fundamentals of comic book storytelling. Very helpful with advice pertaining to the assignment given to us that week.

A true legend in the industry and he embodies the best of DC's Silver Age.

RIP Carmine Infantino.

-C!

I've said this before & will repeat it till something new comes along to change my mind:

Showcase
4 (Infantino inked by Kubert) may be my single favorite issue of art EVER.

I am sad to see another legend go. May he rest well.

Today, I was talking with a software developer at my company that has a love for comic art and I must be 20 years his senior. He commented that he would love to own some Frank Quietly art. Luckily he was familiar with JB's art and Mike Grell's work. There is hope, but the new readers and admirers of comic books rarely extend their appreciation beyond the current crop of hot artists.

RIP Carmine

Those of us in the know (especially comic shop owners, librarians, or other people with direct influence over comic fans) should do our part and let newer readers know about the best stuff that's available.  If someone likes the current Flash series, point 'em to the Flash Chronicles or Archives and tell them that all of their favorite stuff from the new book stems from what Carmine did in his first run on the book.
