I was never a big fan of his work, but I will say he had a distinctive look and you could tell he put himself into it.

He's a legend, that's for sure! He's also one of those artists who looks like his characters.

The Silver Age is that much farther away now, isn't it?
One of my favorite images from DC's Silver Age is Barry Allen's Flash costume popping out of his ring. Such an amazing, innovative visual.
RIP, Carmine.

People were talking about him on Twitter so I guessed it must be this. RIP.

Walt Simonson just posted this on his FB page: RIP, Carmine Infantino. A complex man about whom a lot will be said. ;-) So I'll let other people say it. My own brief story is that Carmine is the guy who, more or less by accident, got a look at my portfolio the first day I walked into DC in 1972. After we had a brief conversation, he made certain that I walked out of his office with a job. Always grateful, never forgotten. Thank you, Carmine. Godspeed.

I've been enjoying Infantino's artwork long before I even knew who he was... I was only 5 years old when I received my first STAR WARS comic featuring his artwork (incidentally, the one with the John Byrne cover, #13 I believe--which, eerily enough, I had just been looking at this morning). Today has been a kick to the gut, between the news of Roger Ebert and now Carmine Infantino. Sad, sad day indeed. RIP
