According to his agent, who posted this on FB, Carmine died today.

"J. David Spurlock says, "REST IN PEACE CARMINE INFANTINO"
In 2007, Joe Orlando introduced me to his mentor and best friend,
legendary comic book creator, Carmine Infantino. Joe, Carmine and I
became very close, very quickly. Carmine and I became even closer
with the passing, a year and a half later, of our dear friend, Joe. A
number of times, over the years, Carmine looked at me and said, "So
you're what Joe left me." Well, today Carmine will be reunited with his
old friend in time for Joe Orlando's birthday. I hope to eat clams casino,
drink wine, and listen to Volare with them again."

Just saw George Perez's Facebook post on this. So sad. RIP, Mr Infantino.

Some more awful news! THE Flash artist of all-time. Another legend
gone that will be missed. RIP.

He was one of the remaining giants of the Silver Age, from creating the
classic Silver Age Flash, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl and Deadman to drawing the
classic Flash of Two Worlds. He was primarily known for his DC work but did
work later for Marvel on Star Wars and Spider-Woman for Marvel.
Carmine Infantino will be missed.

Carmine was one of those legends that didn't get nearly the accolades
that he deserved at conventions. I treasured each opportunity to walk
over to his table and thank him for all that he brought to comics.

Bummer.  Very sorry I never got to meet him.  Twice he was scheduled to appear at conventions I attended but canceled at the last minute.

He was arguably the single most important creator involved in the Silver Age of DC Comics. That's a pretty big statement!

I think of him as the definitive Flash and Batgirl artist and he is up there on my list of favorite Batman artists as well.  Everything he drew looked right!

I'm really saddened by this news. He was one of the finest artists ever to work in comics, the ultimate Flash artist, and one of the nicest people I've ever met. I had a chance to talk with him and his nephew at a con a few years ago. His nephew's band had put out a CD, for which Carmine Infantino had drawn the cover. I bought a copy of the CD, which Mr. Infantino signed for me. Of course, I also asked his nephew to sign it, which surprised him. Apparently, most fans who had purchased the CD that day only wanted his uncle's autograph.

What a rotten day for the comics world today is!

RIP

I was so fortunate to have had the chance to meet him at a Canadian con a couple of years ago. While most con attendees were lined up to meet the current crop of star artists, Carmine had the distinction of being the guest that the star artists were lining up to meet.

The first comic I ever bought with my own money was Marvel's Star Wars #11, which featured art from this amazing creator. He was definitely one of the greats!
