And yet the Kirby reprints from DC continue to be in the Fourth World style.

Any ideas how these different choices are made?

Simply different people assigned to the Job?

There has been a certain level of snobbery in most of DC's product for a long time now. They were among the first to switch to better paper stock, for instance, and get very puffed up about themselves when they won industry awards for doing so -- even tho the change had no impact whatsoever on the really IMPORTANT part of the product, the QUALITY of the STORIES.

Jack Kirby has been deified, Garcia-Lopez has not.

My copy of the Garcia Lopez collection was sent out this morning... really disappointed to hear that the reprint quality is poor. Especially as it was quite expensive as well.... :/

Love Garcia-Lopez's work. Really took notice of it decades ago when he worked on the short lived ATARI FORCE comic.  Just some beautiful stuff.  Disheartened to hear that the reproduction for this book is so horrible.  Have to agree that the Kirby volumes DC has been putting out are things of beauty, so it's a shame that the same kind of quality couldn't have been afforded the Garcia-Lopez collection.  Based on that, this book is a big ol' pass for me.

My comic book shop had the DC Comics Presents Showcase on sale for half off.  I decided not to buy it because of the Garcia-Lopez Superman collection would have the stories I was really interested in.  After the responses above on the quality of that collection I went ahead and bought Showcase instead.  I am lucky they still had it.

Now this is a shame. I got the Superman vs Captain Marvel
trade along with the Lopez collection, and the Cap/Superman
book has a much better choice of paper, and job done of the
reproduction.

The Kirby Fourth World trades are so good, I wonder if it would be possible to petition DC and Marvel to start producing older material in that way? I can't imagine that anyone who actually likes the material would think that they look better with the lazy/slick production values that they typically employ.

Thanks! Trevor, the local comic book stores in my area don't carry many HB or TPB's so I have to search around for reviews on the ones I am interested in.

The Demon hardcover is beautiful. That was one of the few books I rushed out to buy as soon as I heard it had been released.
