Hi John :)
I've got a question for you, that I've often wondered throughout the years... apologies if this has been asked on here before.
On your run on X-Men, was your version of Wolverine ever inspired by Clint Eastwood? I can't put my finger on it, but for some reason your version of Wolvie always reminded me of him, whereas Dave Cockrum's version didn't.
Hope you don't mind me asking... it's just something I've wondered about!

It was Frank Miller who went off-model and "cast" Eastwood as Wolverine. My "model" was this guy. . .

Thanks for the reply, John! I've not heard of Paul D'Amato before now, but seeing this picture, and having just done a google search I can definitely see why he would be a good model for Wolverine! Looking at him, I think back in the day he'd have been an ideal Logan!

Is it just me - or does Hugh Jackman - in "X-Men Origins : Wolverine" from 2009 - look very much like Eastwood in his dust-jacket ??

Jackman looked very much like a young Eastwood when he was first cast as Wolverine. I'm quite sure that was one of the main things informing his being chosen, in fact.

I remember an interview with Jackman where he says he met Eastwood early in his (Jackman's) career. They were standing together in a line, with Jackman ahead. The conversation went something like:
Jackman, "Mr. Eastwood, it's a pleasure to meet you. I've been told we look somewhat alike."
Eastwood: "Yer holdin' up the line, kid."

Hugh Jackman definitely has a similarity to Clint Eastwood... like John said, is probably a big reason he was cast as Wolverine. Many times in the first movie he reminded me of Clint. Especially the scene at the beginning in the bar.
I'll admit, I really like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine... he's a great actor, and is definitely the high point of those movies for me.

I was under the impression the greatest offense is direct eye contact, which can be interpreted as a challenge.
I thought I saw that in a documentary about lions on Animal Planet.

I would imagine that the celebrities that don't want eye contact or to be addressed by their proper name in public are the same ones that don't want to be approached by fans/strangers in public.
I've heard never to loudly address a celebrity so that a crowd isn't drawn but never that they are offended by being formally addressed.

If a celebrity is out in public, and has managed to go unrecognized, s/he does not want his/her name announced to anyone within earshot. Correct etiquette is to smile, nod, and quietly say "I enjoy your work." (Even as a microscopically minor "celebrity" I have experienced the downside of this "rule" not being followed. Being hailed as I cross a hotel lobby, for instance. "Hey! Are you John Byrne?" And a dozen heads turn, and a dozen hands reach for books to get signed. . . )
