Y'know, if this were Neal Adams or Joe Kubert making art corrections
on JB's work, I could consider it sage advice.

I don't believe they would have ever done this.

Or is this common practice? I just can't imagine "correcting" anothers work, on a public forum.

I can't believe he "fixes" JB's art but leaves Liefeld's as is.

••

Well, Larsen did once declare Liefeld the true heir to Jack Kirby!

So... first JB doesn't do backgrounds, now his backgrounds are too cluttered?

Larsen is trying to start a new meme?

Who is this Romita guy and where does he get off correcting Erik Larsen's work?

I find it a question of respect. Considering the years of experience JB (and Neal) has, I'd have to have pretty big balls (excuse my crudeness <g>) to try and 'correct' what they do!

---and using John and Neal's work in this instance might elavate oneself considerably, right! Eric must be uber-skilled if he can correct these artists.

That said, no one is exempt from errors or over sights.

This reeks of someone learning something new and trying to share this lesson with their fan base, passed off as learned knowledge that has escaped other artists.

This is actually somewhat fascinating.

When it comes to Erik Larsen, there seems to be some sort of twisted "hero worship - obsession - kill your idols" thing going on.

I actually followed The Savage Dragon monthly for quite a while and only stopped buying it because I went on a hiatus from all comics for a good 7 or 8 years.  But, I was a fan; the book was fun and funny and grim & gritty at times, but always entertaining.  Regardless of some of the subject matter and mature themes, it brought me back to my early days of reading comics; colorful characters, exciting storylines, outlandish costumes, etc.

But.

There was always some sort of "Presence of Byrne" lurking throughout, whether it be the obvious artistic influences (in ther earlier days of TSD it was very visible and one of the things that attracted me to his work), a recurring character named Johnny Redbeard (who I believed to be a tribute to JB, not a swipe at him - naive, I know), and even the artist he hired to draw Freak Force (his name escapes me and I'm too lazy to Google it), who aped JB at any and every turn! I'm sure there are more examples, but you get the point; JB was "there" somehow.

Then there was his time spent posting and "debating" here on the JBF (I'm sure he's still lurking) and his JB Twitter feeds.

And now the correcting JB's work.  Like I said, fascinating.

I wonder what a psychiatrist would have to say about his behavior?

* edited for spelling

I devote enough time on this Forum to correcting my own stuff, anyway!

I'm reminded of when Jack Kirby died, and I was told "You are the new King, now!" I used this as the opening to my eulogy to Kirby, going on to point out how I was NOT, in fact, the "new King", or anything even close. In one of the most bizarre moments of my career, Larsen "responded", blasting me for daring to call myself the King, and listing the same reasons I had why I was not!!

I still have not figured out what happened, there. Did Larsen read only a heavily edited version of my eulogy?

This was, of course, the same place where he had high praise for Rob Liefeld, so. . .

We're all human beings and should love each other!

But I agree, Lars.

Sadly, I am among the last of a dying breed...
