This is actually somewhat fascinating. When it comes to Erik Larsen, there seems to be some sort of twisted "hero worship - obsession - kill your idols" thing going on. I actually followed The Savage Dragon monthly for quite a while and only stopped buying it because I went on a hiatus from all comics for a good 7 or 8 years. But, I was a fan; the book was fun and funny and grim & gritty at times, but always entertaining. Regardless of some of the subject matter and mature themes, it brought me back to my early days of reading comics; colorful characters, exciting storylines, outlandish costumes, etc. But. There was always some sort of "Presence of Byrne" lurking throughout, whether it be the obvious artistic influences (in ther earlier days of TSD it was very visible and one of the things that attracted me to his work), a recurring character named Johnny Redbeard (who I believed to be a tribute to JB, not a swipe at him - naive, I know), and even the artist he hired to draw Freak Force (his name escapes me and I'm too lazy to Google it), who aped JB at any and every turn! I'm sure there are more examples, but you get the point; JB was "there" somehow. Then there was his time spent posting and "debating" here on the JBF (I'm sure he's still lurking) and his JB Twitter feeds. And now the correcting JB's work. Like I said, fascinating. I wonder what a psychiatrist would have to say about his behavior? * edited for spelling
