Would this thread be 19 pages and counting if Mark Bagley had posted the exact same critiques online?

Good Question.

There is the extended history of asshaterry from Larsen that comes into play here.  Lending his action an automatic air of poking the bear.

I would still have exception with Bagley if he presented hid critique as the "right" way rather than approach it with "this is how I would have done it."

it is all about how you present a critique...and respect should come first that would even be true in an actual teacher student relationship.

Sure it would, Again, Larsen's not critiquing, he has a bone to pick with Byrne. We/re going round and round with this...

Andrew: Would this thread be 19 pages and counting if Mark Bagley had posted the exact same critiques online?

**

There's a real human instinct to see self-important folks get their inflated self image punctured. I see that as a real ingredient in the "mix" that's kept this thread alive.

Ironically, I think Larsen is motivated by this too and, in trying to "stick it" to JB, sets himself up to look like an ass.

I would guess that the answer is "yes", but a big part of
it would be Mr. Bagley's "tone", now wouldn't it?

Andrew perhaps Erik needs to offer JB, and fandom, an apology.  He certainly hasn't made many new fans with this childish vendetta.

I knew Mark Bagley before he worked at M and enjoyed calling him a friend after that. We have since grown apart since I'm so far away. The man I knew isn't capable of unprofessional behaviour.

Yeah, but would Erik's initial critique (not the later, indisputably taking a poke at JB ones) have come off as unprofessional if it had been from someone like Mark Bagley or Paul Ryan or Ron Lim or someone else who doesn't have a real online persona, and who didn't have some prior beef with JB?

If I had to guess I would think not. It's not a complete apples to apples
since Larsen has a long history of baiting or trashing not just JB but
others work. I am not sure the same could be said for the others you
listed.

I received an email from an ex Byrne fan that was pissed Byrne was rude to
him on here. He threatened me and my son if I didn't stop supporting Byrne's
work. He listed a bunch of personal info about my life, really scary stuff. It
was nuts

---

I have mentioned before how I received a couple of crude emails labeling JB
as a racist, and strongly suggesting that it would be stupid of me to continue
to "support" someone like him. I guess that's part of the risk that goes along
with signing up and posting with your real name. Of course, it's nothing
compared to what Jodi has experienced.

[edited to change "I" to "it"...]

Yes, I have also received "hate" mail from JB detractors. People need
to find more to do with their time. I do not wish it on anyone!
