perhaps Andrew was showing us how much of what works in the panel is actually the colourists work, rather than Larsen?

Erik erased lines off of Malcolm's face, since he thought it aged the character.  I offered to fix it for him, and erased the rest of the lines off his face for good measure.  Oh, well.  Erik thought it was funny, although he said I de-aged him too much.

Ronald,to throw your own words back at you, have you
actually read this thread.

JB has stooped to Larsen's level, BOTH of them have made
unsolicited changes to another artists work in public
forums, BOTH have critized other creators regularly
throughout their careers in public forums. It's bad form.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure Neal Adams is guilty of
making unsolicited changes too.

The only difference between them here is intent. Larsen
is clearly and deliberately baiting JB. For him to
suggest otherwise is dishonest.

Of course the real enemy here is photoshop.

I sure have and I've got comments starting waaay back on Page 4.

JB has stooped to Larsen's level,

Someone has filled your head with lies, sir.

BOTH of them have made unsolicited changes to another artists work in public forums, BOTH have critized other creators regularly throughout their careers in public forums. It's bad form.

Using ALL CAPS doesn't make your POINT more VALID.  It's just obnoxious.  I regret having to stoop to your level.  Apologies.

Having said that, JB has made unsolicited changes here, in his forum.  You want to see them, you come here. They're not being posted in a news feed or on Twitter.  Not to mention that JB has a proven respect for the medium.  It's instructional and helpful when he does it.  It's not done by someone "poking the bear" to get some attention.

A "real life" equivalent might be JB having a conversation with people in his own home versus standing on a street corner shouting at the top of his lungs.

The only difference between them here is intent. Larsen
is clearly and deliberately baiting JB. For him to
suggest otherwise is dishonest.

Thank you for making the point I've been making all along.

If only you'd limited your entire post to "Larsen is clearly and deliberately baiting JB. For him to suggest otherwise is dishonest," I wouldn't have had to type so much in rseponse.

But thanks for joining in!

He did that on the SUPERMAN/ SPIDER-MAN book!

The whole story of how Neal Adams made unsolicited "changes" on SUPERMAN vs SPIDER-MAN:

When I saw ads for SUPERMAN/SPIDER-MAN I would've sworn that
Neal drew the cover. I got my own copy years later and saw the credits
and was astonished not to see Adams' name anywhere. I tended to
attribute the "Neal-ness" to the inks of Dick Giordano and/or his
credited assistants. To find out that Neal Adams DID, in fact, work on
the book ...well, lets just say it took all I had tonot leap up and say "I
KNEW IT!" when I first read the linked article.

The really cool thing: It still looks like Ross Andru's work! The layouts
and composition are all him. Superman looks like HIS Supeeman.
Just...MORE so.

I confess to not being the biggest Andru fan as a kid. There was a
"flatness" to his characters that didn't appeal to me. There was none of
that in the SUPERMAN/SPIDER-MAN book or in the Power Records
comic that Andru and Giordano did the interiors for. I wonder if Adams
worked his magic there, too?

SUPERMAN vs THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (the first one) was a labor of love. Seriously. It was like the whole friggin' comicbook industry for one brief shining moment turned into a giant lovefest, and EVERYBODY wanted the book the be the BEST it could POSSIBLY BE.

I have two of the double page spreads hanging on my Studio wall, and I can't look at them without getting all squishy inside. It was such a dream come true, that book. And what made it even better, it was a dream a lot of us didn't even know we had.

Yes, "unsolicited" Neal redrew the Andru Superman figures. But he stayed inside the silhouette of Ross' drawings, and that's why they still sort of look like Ross' drawings.

And it was all about making the book the BEST it could POSSIBLY BE. No egos. Just love.

"Erik thought it was funny."

Yes, I am sure he's laughing up a storm.

It certainly shows in the finished product. I'd say the same about the 1981 crossover, too, and the Batman/Hulk crossover.

Jb, I'm not disputing Neal's intent, nor yours for that matter. You have
been generously providing art instruction for years now. On top of that,
the pencils section in the gallery provides a master class in comicbook
storytelling, one of the best resources on the Internet for any aspiring
comicbook artist. I gather Mr Larsen's educational vocation is
somewhat new.

The issue I have is with the unsolicited part. If I give Neal a pass, then
you get a pass, Larsen gets a pass and so on. It's bad enough buying a
book with your art where changes have been solicited (Nelson), let
alone to even fathom a book with unsolicited changes.

So if I may ask you directly, what is your position on one peer making
unsolicited changes to another peers work?

For example, say back when you were doing X-Men Hidden Years
Scott Williams had been the inker. Scott shares a studio with Jim Lee.
Same scenario as Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man, but replace
Ross with you and Neal with Jim.

Would you be happy?

We've established an equivalence between Larsen and greats like Adams and Byrne? Wow, this little stunt has advanced Larsen's career more than a thousand issues of Savage Dragon ever could!
