I don't think criticism has to necessarily come from someone who's "better" in order to be valid.

Stan Lee had a great eye for what made good comic art and was a successful art director without drawing a lick himself.

I agree with you but in this case we are talking about two artist in the same field who are obviously not at the same artistic level. Just doesn't seem right but that's my opinion.

I agree with Abraham, to me, they aren't even in the same league.
I've seen Larson's stuff over the years and it just never interested me enough for more than a casual glance. Never read one of his comics. His artwork just struck me as sloppy and not very interesting to look at.
John Byrne inspired me want to learn to draw. He gets so much right,
perspective, anatomy, expressions, cityscapes, drama, subtle details.
Even if they were complete artistic peers this would be in poor taste but as it stands Larson is not even close, to say nothing of NEAL ADAMS!

Yeah. Larsen will always find his little excuses to take potshots at me, it seems. But to go after Neal? Yeesh!!!

As JB points out, the criticism falls flat when he's saying something is wrong in the original, when what he's actually saying is he doesn't like it.

In the Thing picture, the Thing's arm is clearly in front of the lamp-post- not touching it, so that we are in no confusion that it is much further way from the Thing. Furthermore, the trash can sits in front of the lamp-post, and has garbage in front of it, and we can see how small the soda cups are and have a perfect illusion of those items being in the distance. There is a very real sense of depth in the picture.

Similarly with the Thing's left arm, the rocky plates clearly extend in front of the line of the building, rather than running alongside it.

Larsen's had a beef with JB for years. Remember "Johnny Redbeard?" Apparantly, Larsen hasn't grown up.

And yet, Larsen continues to single out JB's work and correct it:

(This was posted just yesterday on his Facebook page)

Why is Larsen constantly seeking out pictures drawn by JB to "correct"? And he seems to be deliberate in his intention to single out JB's art, as he surely knows about the discussion on this board, as Andrew has told him.

Really, is this meant to be constructive, or is it just a not-so-subtle way to attack JB?

I'm sure at this point, he's just amusing himself by baiting the
conversation in this thread.

I'm guessing that Larsen wants - and is currently enjoying - some
attention.

So let me get this straight...nobody in the course of human history, if we consider "snapshots", has ever moved there mouth in such a way that the top lip obscures part of the upper teeth?

Regardless, the original, unf#!&ed up one, is more expressive given that slight difference. I'd be amused it this isn't so much about annoying JB as Lasen actually thinking stuff like this matters and are problems that are vital to fix.

As I have said, it isn't so much the art criticism or "playing God" with Larsen as his personal attacks on JB that irk me.  I almost get the feeling Larsen "corrected" JB's art just to get the attention.

Oh, well, if this entire exercise helps Larsen improve his own artistic skills, all the better.

I think what's really bugging all these guys (even Liefield and Hitch have commented on this) is the fact that they've all been blocked from the forum. That's REALLY what's eating them up inside and causing them to lose sleep.
