Wow, I've never even heard of Mike's. (I was born in 1977 and I didn't
actually live in the great metropolis of Edmonton until adulthood) I wonder
how much Edmonton has changed since that time.

The "Gateway to the Yukon" has definitely changed since my day!

(Note overhead wires for trolley buses!!)

I seem to recall reading online that the sign is in someone's collection. Kinda wish it was mine!

During the years I lived in Edmonton (1958-1966, approx) "beautiful" is not a word I would have thought to associate with the city. "Gray" would be closer to the mark. Those long winters would sock in around September and stick thru May, and the Sun was hardly seen.

It was something of a revelation when we moved to Calgary, and I discovered Chinooks. Those are warm winds that come over the Rockies and can turn the temperature from -40°F to +40°F literally overnight. Plus, in Calgary the sky was almost always blue thruout the winter.

THIS quote struck me.

If I could tell my younger self that I'd some day type messages directly to John Byrne(!) I'd punch my lying self.

I'm 43. I had one of those moments when I realized less time had passed between the original Star Trek and TNG than has passed since the debut of TNG. When I was a kid, TOS (not called that then, of course) was ANCIENT, like contemporary with Lincoln, WWII, and the dinosaurs.

I thought the same thing recently when thinking about Star Trek. I first really got into Trek at the time of the 4th movie, at which point TOS was 20 years old. I was stunned recently when I thought about it and realized that STAR TREK IV is now 26 years old!

20+ years ago, I was working bindery equipment in what was presumed to be a decent job at a major company.  The 12-year old me would've been a bit disappointed that I didn't end up penciling pages for Marvel Comics at that time.  "Why'd you wanna go and work a drudgy job like that, Dope!"

Things change more than we can ever expect them to.
