Question: On the first page, there is a character sitting in the center-back that caught my eye. Is that an alien or an unusual outfit/hat?•• No aliens in this series, unless you count animals (like the little one being examined at the Europa base).

Thanks! I thought that background character looked too casual to be an alien.

Rick, have you ever had a chance to read any of the old EC WEIRD SCIENCE stories by Wally Wood and that group?

No, I haven't read any of those old EC EC Weird Science stories. I'll have to try and track down some reprints of those stories.

Rick, Amazon has two of the four hardback collections. Just type in
WEIRD SCIENCE. The other two shouldn't be that hard to track down.
Plus, on April 6, there will be a 50 GIRL 50 collection will be released.
That collection will have stories drawn by Al Williamson, Frank
Frazetta and others. There are a lot of books out right now collecting
those stories.
JB's first issue really feels like one of those stories, with a tech
sensibility of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY.

I'm going to be looking into this myself - I don't have a lot of Wally Wood and have been interested in the talk about him here on the forum. THE HIGH WAYS has made me hungry to read more sci-comics.

Hello! New reviews of #1 still trickling in...
Sorry this is late, but the comic shop special ordered issue one for me, and it just arrived.
Love this story! Real science fiction, with carefully thought out details and set in a plausible future. Yay!
Not much I can say about the characters since we just met them, but Jack may become a favorite. He's got spunk.
Interesting detail about the long term naps. From the way they talk, it sounds more like hibernation and not some kind of cryogenic freezing. (Like you usually see in science fiction.) If they're still aging while asleep, that would make those long hauls pretty difficult. Even if you're only awake for a fraction of the trip to Europa, you're still eight months older when you get there, and sixteen months older when you get back. If a person wasn't careful choosing jobs, they could sleep their life away and have nothing to show for it.

It goes to something I mentioned before, about how the Future will be a lot like the Past, when travel between distant places on the Earth's surface took months and even years, and even communication was slow. Lives and business dealings would have to be adjusted accordingly. "I can get you that by Thursday" would become "I can get you that in two years..."

I hadn't really considered just how much those long sleeps end up costing the people who choose that occupation!

Think about how much of their lives "regular" truckers lose to the job. Long hauls, away from family and friends -- they add up!

Loved the first two issues.
JB, is there a particular "FX audiotrack" that you imagine when developing the space travel shots? For example: complete silence-- or instead, some sort of engine hum a la Star Trek, Galactica, etc.?
