I read it again last night - the first time I was caught up in the characters and their interchange. I just love the tone created by how these characters interact.
Reading a second time, I was blown away by the art. I love when you draw a sci-fi world, JB - you get the look just right.

It's been fun for me to see those two models being put to use, at last! As I mentioned when making my little announcements, both began with different purposes, the ship as a TRUCK, with wheels (which is no doubt why I thought to "recycle" the model when the idea of "space truckers" popped into my head), and the Europa base as a mid-ocean station. Another ship turns up next issue, and it was also "refitted" from an earlier model. The "wheel in space" station, as I noted previously, was built specifically for this series.

As I've mentioned before, I have waived my page rate and first publication royalties on all my books at IDW, to make it easier on their corporate wallets. I get only the royalties from the trade paperbacks and other reprints.

Not to belabor, but does this mean you will get the royalties from digital sales of the trade paperbacks when they come out?

Not to belabor, but does this mean you will get the royalties from digital sales of the trade paperbacks when they come out?•• I suppose so. Haven't given it any thought. IDW have been very good about making sure they pay me what they owe me (as distinct from a certain other "small" company I could mention), so I trust them.

I loved the book. Like Trio, I expect over the course of the next month to keep reading the first issue repeatedly until the second comes out, and so on.
Straight up science fiction is awesome in a comic, some of the best science fiction being the stuff that makes the remarkable seem mundane, lived in, and real. It had a great "day in the life" kind of vibe to it, like we were tagging along with the crew just watching them work. I knew after I turned the first page and started reading the second and third that I was going to love the series, and that's a tough thing to do with me.
On the page rate/royalty topic, both you and IDW should be happy with me - I buy the singles and the trades! Singles because I'm too eager to wait until the trade is released, trades because I can't be bothered to take out all the singles when I want to re-read the series.

Hello all! My laptop died and I've had issues logging in w my smartphone (Thanks, Matt!). But I'm happy to say I'm back! Even happier to comment on this great new series! Of course, much of my love is seeing my surname used for a character! ("French" is a common name of Irish descent, but everybody thinks of the language....). Tho with my luck, French will become a victim of that ugly guy in the last panel.
Really great stuff, John! Looking forward to seeing where we go.

I started with the idea that the cargo pods would be modular, and the ship could be extended or contracted as need arose. Then I remembered my modular "moon buggy" model, and it all went from there!

Excellent first issue, JB. There's a real feeling of who these characters are right out of the gate. Great suspense with that last panel, as well. Who WOULDN'T want to read the next issue after seeing that? I really liked how Wallace's hair grew while he was "asleep." As I've said before, your knack for bringing in such realisms as this is what makes your work above all the rest. Kudos on a job well done. ( My only complaint is that all your current titles aren't all coming out together. This makes me clamor for the nest NEXT MEN installment, then I think about TRIO, and then I remember I've been waiting forever for the next COLD WAR mini.)

Read it this weekend--really enjoyed it. I found myself going back and just looking more closely at the images after reading the story which is always a sign for me that both story and art are really clicking. I am eager to read what happens on each page so I don't fully appreciate the art at first, but know that it was really good and wanted to go back and really soak it up after finishing the story that had me hooked. A perfect first issue--has me eager for more.

I am eager to read what happens on each page so I don't fully appreciate the art at first…•• I consider that a good thing! As much effort as I put into the pictures, they are there in support of the STORY. They should carry you along, and not call attention to themselves. Plenty of time to go back and soak up the sheer genius of my indescribably gorgeous renderings AFTER you're read the story!
