I can't find a picture of it online, but Marvel did these B&W reprints of Marvel Team-Up back in the late 70s/early 80s that I think were MMPB-sized. I got my hands on one that reprinted the Living Monolith 2-parter and the Man-Thing stories from MTU, by Byrne and Claremont. First Byrne

(Now that I think about it, it wasn't just Marvel who did those small B&W reprints. I also had one that reprinted the first few issues of New Teen Titans.)

The first Byrne art I saw when I was old enough to understand that there was actually a person who drew this stuff, was this beauty (purchased because that cover was the coolest thing I'd seen in my 9 years on this planet):

I believe The Incredible Hulk annual #7 was the first (unaware) contact that I had with JB. X-Men 114 was a very close 2nd. Only because I actually remember going back to the art/book store to spend the dollar I had been given.

That Hulk issue was one of the strongest and most powerful depictions of the character I have from my childhood. Such a beautifully drawn issue. The sentinals have never looked better.

Rog 2000, Doomsday +1 and Space 1999 (when we imagined the future would include space travel).  I can't remember which was first but think it was the Rog 2000 backups in E-Man.

My one must have been the MTU with Hulk & Spider-Man (& Woodgod)...I only knew Cockrum's X-Men at this time...needless to say I chased JBXM & JBothers straight away (french magazines) !!!

Interesting note : I never seeked the famous mission the X-Men refer to at the beginning of this issue for decades...finally ordered it (Sons of light and darkness...) at MileHighComics and....this was soooo poor story & drawings.

There definitely is JB &.............very far behind, the others.

I'm like Brennan--it was one of the Charlton titles, either Space:1999 or Doomsday+1. I was hooked from the first time I saw his work.

The first Byrne comic I purchased was this:

(I had commission of that one done).

What I think the first JB art I was exposed to was this—on the racks at the comic shop:

high school when those issues came out.

I always liked the Hulk as a kid and when I had seen that cover for the #7 annual, I had to get it. The Hulk with two X-Men (I knew little about them) and in space... to much to resist.
Tho not to drift too much from this but my first X-Men contact had been in Captain America 174.
