This cover nearly leapt off of the spinner rack:•• I've told before the tale of how much I struggled with that cover! Dave Cockrum did the sketch, and in his version Professor X has his hand up to his face, with a great look of anguish. Dave pulled it off, but no matter how hard I tried, my version ended up looking like Charles had just been shot in the eye with a B.B. gun. This was the cover that earned me the sobriquet "Master of Quiet Drama". Which worked for me! (Still hadn't figured out how Storm's hair worked, tho!)

My first and still one of my all-time favorites.

UCM #108, and these panels made me a fan:
The smirk on Jahf's face really won me over.

X-men #132. A friend had a copy and after a quick peek made a trade for the book. I didn't know who the Hellfire Club was and wasn't real familiar with all the X-men, but I loved it. It was a long time till I was able to get the rest of the story, but I've never regretted that trade.

Fantastic Four 239, off a spinner rack. I had no clue who these guys were, but it sure looked cool! The story was interesting and didn't end with a dreaded cliffhanger... I was hooked!
JB was the first artist where I made an effort to track down his previous work.

Not sure, but feel like the issue when the X-Men are part of Arcade's carnival might be my first time-
Edited to add: Hmmm... I misremembered the villain of this story! Not Arcade at all.

My first memory of JB's work was when I bought Daredevil #138 where he was a fill in artist. It was such a treat compared to the work being turned in by Bob Brown in those days. Suddenly, one of the worst illustrated books became one of the best!

Daniel. That issue was my first exposure to JB's art as well. The villian of the piece was Mesmero, who's one-upped at issue end by the reveal of a certain ... ah, that would be telling!

my first contact with JB's art was the issue of SPACE:1999 when the alpha crew encountered the greek gods. LOVED that issue, especially the trident driven up through the eagle's command module. i lost it in a move from wisconsin to new jersey in '76 and missed it ever since.

That X-men 114 cover was an early one for me as well. A friend just gave me that one along with 115 and that Cover always haunted me. Even though the X-men didn't die, as a kid that image wrote stories that the comic didn't in my mind, if that makes any sense.

It was either the issue of Iron Fist with the terrorist (also my first exposure to Chris Claremont as well, I suspect), or a Rog 2000 backup in a Charlton comic (very hard to find Charltons round my patch).
I just fell in love with the Chief's work and followed it everywhere since that Iron Fist issue.

I'm certain that his first few issues of MTU were my first conscious exposure to John's art, but the combo of his MTU issues and the concurrent X-Men rum blew my mind.
The first piece of Byrne art I held was likely the MTU #54 reimagining that he did for me. It hangs on my living room wall beside a Ross Andru ASM action page and both awaken the kid inside every time that I glance at them......
